I myself was just considering a new sedan similar to your choices, i looked at the CLS550, CLS63 AMG, C55 AMG, E63 AMG BMW M5, BMW M3, Audi S4 and Audi A6. I liked all of these cars, but only got to drive a few, due to car availability. I didn't really want to spend quite as much as the more expensive cars cost, but I tried to keep an open mind no matter what the cost. The Mercedes are very nice, but many of the cars are getting changed in the next year or two, including the C Class and most likely the E Class. The S4 was a great looking sporty little sedan but I didn't like the interior near as much as the audi A6 I looked at, so they informed me about the S6 that is coming out and it is supposed to be a very nice car, fast and comfortable. I didn't like the quality of the M3 so I forgot that. Then the specs on the new 2007 M3 came out and they looked very impresive. Then there is the ever popular IS500 info buzing about every which way.
In summary, 5 new great lower priced vehicles are coming out in the next year, or so and my choice was to wait it out and see and not make an impulse buy. So if you want to see the New Audi S6, new BMW M3(2007), the new C and E class AMGs and possibly the IS500 I would sit it out if thats possible.
Why didn't you get a European car over your IS350 if you think they are all that. Lexus and Merc offer different things. I don't think you needed to go off at C280to250, its called an oppinion. Sheesh some people can be so defensive
...
Buy the Mercedes if you have a bottomless wallet otherwise get the Lexus. I just traded my Mercedes in for a new IS250 this past Saturday. Over the four years I owned the car I managed to acquire nineteen service orders for just repairs. Unless you have an ironclad warranty to cover repairs the car will nickle and dime to you to the poor house. Fun to drive and very expensive to maintain.......trust me on this one.
And mine was not an AMG model but rather a C-230 Kompresor

Easy choice, when comparing equivalent class cars, with comparable performance and equipment - get the NEW car over the used one. Why buy someone else's test mule - there's got to be a good reason why after 1 year and 18k miles, the original owner wants to unload it. Besides, getting a new IS350 allows you to pick & choose the color combo and options that you want, as opposed to settling for a predetermined package. Now if you were getting a brand new C55 at a great deal, that would make the decision a lil' tougher . . .
