Whats with the Shark Fin Antenna for 07? Will it serve a purpose??? I personally think its ugly. Hopefully it can be removed...

 

The shark fin will be used for satellite radio.

The Nav and radio antennas are integrated into the windshield.

 

does that mean you only get the sharkfin if you get the dealer installed satellite radio??? or does it come with it regardless?

This may be a dumb question, but is it possible to have a shark fin installed aftermarket? I have the satellite antenna on my trunk, and I think the reception is quite poor. My last car (an Audi A4) had a shark fin and the reception was far superior. Thanks.

 

Not a dumb question at all, and yes, you can have it installed "aftermarket." You can get the dealer or local audio specialist to install it for you. Getting the OEM fin will be best as the colors will match perfectly.

Only problem: I guess people won't be able to get a Crystal White fin. It will have to be Starfire Pearl...

 

I'm not so sure that will be true. That means the port or dealer will need to drill a hole in the roof for the sharkfin. That doesn't seem likely to me.

I would think the sharkfin will come on the car from the factory. That means either a.) All ISs will have a sharkfin whether or not the car has sat radio (the same way that all BMW 3-series have the sharkfin) or b.) Only cars with factory XM will get the sharkfin if XM comes from the factory for 2007 as has been rumored.

 

I think it will be like BMW were you can order the car pre-wired for sat radio which I think will put the sharkfin on the car and the wiring harness but no head unit. Or you can obviously order the car with sat radio in which case the fin will be on the car .

 

This is how Audi did it as well when they started using the fins...they were on all cars at one point (~04 or so I believe) but needed the sat receiver added at the dealer's or customer's request...basically a prewired antenna.

 

Thank you, Philip, for your answer. (It looks like you have a BWB also? I have a black interior in mine, I'm really lovin' it.) I'll ask the dealer about getting the shark fin installed. I guess I made the mistake of assuming, when I purchased the car, that by ordering XM radio I would get the shark fin, as I did with my A4. When I saw the little black thingee on the trunk I thought, "Oh well, it looks kinda stupid, but I can deal." But then I heard the lousy reception, so it does seem worth the money to get the real thing.

 

thats great news!!! we dont have satellite radio in hawaii so no fin right....
