I tried pulling the red wire out of my grounded splice. The Brake light goes away but the car will still not shut off unless I depress the parking brake, and touch the Red wire into my grounded splice with the Pink wire.
Here is my childish quick wiring schemes that I have tried. Basically unless I have the Red wires connected I cannot turn the car off at all. If I ground them or leave them as they are factory it is fine.
Pink and white, red together: Car won't turn off unless parking brake is depressed and Brake is on full time
Pink and white together, Red cut: Care won't turn off
Pink and white together, Red not cut: On,Off OK (Don't know if I can use phone, nav while moving yet)
my understanding of the instructions are you are to clip the red wire and take that red wire that's coming form the loom and ground it to the chassis of the HEADUNIT and cap off the red wire that's coming from the other end that's not being used.
After further Review, I'm an idiot and you guys are awesome. Thanks so much for all the replys, I was expecting a response in a day or two but never thought I'd get this many in one day!!
I decided to look at the instructions from the FAQ one last time (I've looked at it about a million times since I ordered the car 2 months ago). In there it clearly states that I'm supposed to take the white with silver wire from P1. (Not to make excuses but P1 in my industry means the first pin in the plug.) When I looked at the picture it clearly showed my error. I was taking the white wire from the J50 connector and splicing it with the pink and red wire. I'm going back and correcting my stuff now. I'll report back.
Now I just have to figure out what plugging that white J50 wire in wrong will do to me in the long run.... Yikes!
I can't tell from your drawings where the wires in your drawing are comming from.
For the red parking brake wire that you cut, the end that comes from the cars wiring
harness is left unconnected. The end that goes to the nav unit is grounded to the
metal chassis of the nav unit.
For the pink and white/silver wires, connect the pink wire comming from
the cars wiring harness to the white/silver wire on the lower connector going to the nav
unit. The pink wire in the upper connector is left unconnected. The white/silver
wire in the upper connector next to the connector that contains the unconnected
pink wire is also unconnected.
If you don't connect the pink wire as described above, your nav display will be jumpy.
The pink wire contains the speed signal. It needs to go into the nav units
white/silver wire. What the mod does is bypass the speed signal from going
thru the multi display control unit.
