Default Need help with the door lock!

Hi, I just purchased a 2006 IS-250 AWD and I need some help:

I would like to lock the doors while the car is running, however the Lexus smart system would not let me do it.
The dealer was not helpful since they said is a safety issue (some one could steal the car).

Can any one help me out? I just need to lock the doors, while I run in to the store for coffee or the in to the bank to use the ATM machine.

Thank you all.

I guess it’s just more convenient to run in with the car running, since it only takes 30 sec for the ATM machine.

I use to close the doors with my last car (2004 Nissan Maxima), while the car was running.

Maybe some one out there knows the way to lock them?

It's worse for the engine to be on extended idle than shutting it off and restarting.

Boy, so many opinions but no one with an answer?

There has to be a way to go around the smart system and I know some one out there could help me out?

All I want to do is to lock the doors when the car is running. The smart system doesn’t allow me to do it.

I had Maxima, which was way cheaper car then the IS 250 and it was possible with it.

Please help me out?

Just shut the car off and stop polluting the environment.

You dont even need to take out the key out of your pocket, all you have to do is press "start" to start the engine. I guess that is to much work for some people.

This is how to beat the "Smart System": Re-sell your IS and buy a used 2004 Maxima. Then leave your engine running, lock the doors, and go to an ATM machine to deposit the leftover proceeds you got from selling your IS.

So, you guys are telling me that no one else does what I do?
No one else leaves there car running, while they run in and out for 30 sec?

I just tried what twkid84 said:
“Bring two keys, one in the glove box, one in your pocket.”

It didn’t work. The door’s still don’t lock. There is probably a way to set the computer or the smart system.

Any one out there could help me out, instead of giving me a smart A&* opinion?

Thank you in advance.

Lot's of save the planet types--if they aren't interested in helping you, they should lay off the moral superiority statements and just keep quiet. Better yet, if they really felt that strongly about the environment they would be driving a Prius. It's a case of "do as I say", but not when it comes down to what they drive--why someone would make these statements and then drive an IS which guzzles gas at twice the rate of a Prius. (city driving anyway), is beyond me. It's a free country, as long as you obey the laws and don't hurt anyone, it's a personal choice.

Ironically, it is against the law in NJ to leave your car idling unattended at a convenience store--I'm not sure if this is for safety (probably not a good idea if little Johnny is in the car) or other reasons.

But to your question, someone had suggested to me that the only way you could leave the car running with the doors lock was to leave the drivers side window down, close the door and then stick your hand in the window and hit the express up. But you have to be fast, otherwise your arm will be caught in the window, and people will wonder what the heck are you trying to do anyway. Also, You might need another key fob to open the door. Ideally, Lexus should offer a remote starter. Great for warming up the car in cold northeast winters.

I'm curious how you did this when cars only had keys. Did you carry two keys all the time?

Thank you for your help.

In New York is not against the Law to leave your car running.

With my last car (2004 Nissan Maxima), I had an ignition key and a separate remote to close and open the doors.
So, I would leave the car running with the key in the ignition and I would close and open the door with the separate remote.

So, I would pull up to the ATM and run in for 30 sec and not turn the car off and would just close the doors.

NOW, I am trying to do the same with my one week old 2006 Lexus IS250 AWD and the smart system would not lock the door when the car is running.

DOES any one know how to fix this problem?
Thank you all.

Sort of. I use a drive-up ATM, so I can leave the car running without the need to lock the doors.

My previous car (Audi) had a one-piece key fob transmitter and key, so I couldn't do what you suggest with that car either.

It is in the five boroughs of New York City. 3 minute idling limit for all vehicles.

New York state has a five minute limit, but I believe it only applies to diesel buses and trucks.

We don’t have a drive up ATM’s here.

I am new to this site. I thought I would get some help from people, but I see all I am getting is people’s opinions.

ONCE again, can any one help me out?
