First of all, welcome to the CL forums! I have found them to be very helpful most of the time. Don't worry about the opinions, everyone is intitled to them. If you use the search feature on the site you will find a couple (or more) threads asking your question and the short answer is NO, no one on this site has found a convenient way to lock the doors and leave the car running. Sorry...

I go inside for the ATM and it takes me 30 sec.
I go inside for cop of coffee and it takes me 2 minutes.
So, I am not breaking the LAW.

And I am not worried about people stealing my car.
I just don’t some one opening the door and taking some thing out of my car. I have my Ipod and cell phone and other stuff seating right there in the open.

DOES any one know how to fix or beat the smart system?
All I want to do is to lock the doors, while the car is running.

THANK YOU ALL.

I understand your frustration with not being able to do what you are trying to do. I'm sure at some point Lexus will come out with a remote start. On a side note I found this on the net
http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/ems/pdf/srgvat.pdf
section 1210 seems to state differently on the car idling unattended don't know if
laws are different when it comes to New York State and New York City. I did see in another thread a picture of a key fob that had a lcd display and a remote start function.

Let me try to help you young man.

For lack of time, I'm asking you to do a search for the other thread that talks all about this. You are not the first one to ask or desire this "problem" to be fixed, others have asked, and I personally have offered all kinds of advice on how to accomplish this. Because I understand, having lived in Minnesota, you need to warm up your car and sometimes it is impossible to sit in that cold car when it is warming up. One method involved using the hard key inserted in the door latch, the other using the window down and locking the door manually.

So if you don't mind first going to somebody's else thread already posted here where there are dozens of comments and several by me offering all kinds of ways to try to defeat this, then go try them all yourself and see if you like them, or do like any of us would do and that is try a few things yourself on your own and see what you come up, maybe you can help us.

If you need to do the search for you, let me know and I'll find the link and post it here. I'm in Korea right now but it's not so hard, I can still do it for you if you somehow can't find the time to do it yourself.

I'm not getting down on you but you post this as though it's a personal problem and people here are obligated to assist you. Never once did I read where you said you've searched (maybe I missed it). We are all willing help, at least most of us are, so be patient until someone comes up with a good answer. This particular "problem" isn't easy but there ARE a few ways if you can do this, it won't be pretty or convenient but it can be done.

cheers.

I am new to this site. I thought I would get some help from people, but I see all I am getting is people’s opinions.

ONCE again, can any one help me out?

Hi, I would like to take this time and say thank you for every ones help.
I guess there is no solution to my problem.
Maybe Lexus will fix this problem in future cars.

If any one does come up with a resolution or way to trick the smart system let me know.
Thank you all.

I asked the same question a couple of months ago because I like to warm my car up in the winter before driving. A number of people responded (do a search on my user name and you will find the post). There were lots of suggestions, but unless you are willng to try leave the window down and lock from the inside and then hit the express up button, no one has come up with an alternative.

One person said that they thought a remote start that was available for a Toyota, (Avalon) I think might be able to be hooked up for the IS. That is probably the best option, unless someone figures out how to hack the software/safety interlock.

If Lexus had made it so the windows could be put up by the remote it would have solved the engine running while not in the car dilemma, At least then you would be able to start the car reach in lock the doors and then push the button to roll the windows up. apon return press the button to roll the windows down.

Lexus needs to fix this dilemma.
How do we let them know?

In my previous car, i was able to put the car in neutral, apply the parking brake and runoutside and lock the car. I think you should be able to do it with this car.

No problem i already took care of it. I called lexus today and let them know about this problem. I even explained to them that the older maxima's are able to do this and my 47K lexus cant. They said not to worry they have had a number of complaints from frequent ATM users on this and the dealer will be able to over ride this starting May 8th. Hope this makes you happy and your welcome.

Excellent! Now maybe you can convince them to disable the annoying NAV screen "I agree" button every time I start-up the car. They make cars that go 140 mph, but they don't make you sign an I agree sign not to drive at 140mph, you are free to use your own judgment--oops bad idea, maybe they will start doing that next.

I called my dealer and they said, they know nothing about it.
Then I called Lexus 800 number and they also said they know nothing about it.

Both told me that this is a safety feature and it can not be changed.

Do you have the number and the name of the person you spoke to?
Has any one else called their dealership about this?

haha...good luck! I'm pretty sure they just told you what you wanted to hear. Lexus will not change the way it works.
