Some believe there is a problem with the IS and stalling. Others don't. Lets try and find out.

just so you know the car is designed to shut off if you throw it in drive while still rolling backwards after reversing...

I think the thread should be for automatics only.

A few times, when I put the car into reverse immediately after starting the car the car stalled. I am used to driving manual and manual transmission cars have no problem when I do this. So now, I just wait a few seconds before putting it in reverse.

Never.

My S2000 and one of the Accords we had did stall very early in their lives.

It seems like the engines were set to idle at low rpms and needed to "learn" a bit about going from mid throttle to idle.

They only stalled once or twice each and then ran happily ever after.

Never stalled. I do know the transmission is tough.
At 4000 rpm, I drop from neutrual to drive and chirp the tires. No problems.

If you put the car in reverse while rolling backwards it can damage the transmission (By putting extra strain on the transmission to over come the backwards momentum.) so to prevent this the car dies.

Mine stalled once when I first got it, I just turned it on and threw it in reverse, then I noticed I wasn't moving the car was so quiet it took me a sec to figure out what happened... Hasn't done it since.
