Default Hit Object on Freeway

Well the title of the thread says it all... about an hour ago was heading home, driving in the rain on the 5 South in San Diego. Up ahead was an accident with some scattered debris on the ground. Here are some pics of the right-rear passenger door.

Any suggestions on where to go from here? Since the debris was part of the accident, I'm going to see if I can file a report. If not, either have to insurance it or pay out of pocket.

Default My condolences

Hey Kev:

It's coming down cats and dogs right now! I live just off 5 and Del Mar Heights. Purposely kept my precious Isabella indoors tonight for just this reason (besides the fact that the main reason I was able to get her is that I wrecked my Accord during the last big storm 4 weeks ago).

I don't know if filing a report is going to get you anywhere - it might even be cheaper in the long run to suck it up and pay to have it fixed with your own hard-earned cash. Having insurance cover it may run up your premiums... blah blah blah. You know the drill. I'd get an estiimate and then talk with your insurance agent and find out if the claim would increase your rates. If the difference (including the deductible) favors having All Farmers Progresso pay for it, then go for it.

It still sucks, man. I can only imagine hearing that awful bang! as the debris tore into the car and having to wait 'til you got home, just dreading to look at the damage.

My condolences.

Dok Henz

So very sorry. Just makes me sick. My guess is that it CAN be fixed and it will look great once again. Then it will become a dim memory. But for now......NUTS!

I spoke an audible "ugh" when I saw that pic.

hope it turns out well (and visibly unnoticible).

Wow, that sucks. Hope it can be fixed...

This is one of the reasons I never drive my IS in the rain or a day after the rain, too many debris, accidents... Since I got my car, there hasn't been a week of sunshine so I've barely got 200 miles on her (most of it the drive to the service center.)

Geez that sux. I could feel it in my stomach looking at the pix. I just took the corner of an SUV door on my right fender that took a chip of paint off to the metal.

Since hitting an unavoidable object on the freeway is not your fault, they won't raise your rates.

My coworker hit a piece of wood in the middle lane, 15 northbound and it ripped out the oil pan, and damaged the tranny some how......... His rates were not affected and it was not classified as an accident by the insurance.

BTW......how do you know it was from that accident? do you have the piece that hit you or did you keep on going? Wouldn't hurt to check with the CHP and see if you can do something as far as a report goes.....maybe 10 other drivers hit the same junk, and they reported about it. Never know......

Damn, that does suck... It can definatly be fixed though, and I also don't think your insurance rates would be affected.

If I were you I would keep it like that. It reminds me of those bullet-hole stickers that hillbillies put on their tailgate.
