Default Locking the center console

I keep an ipod and cellphone in the center console...permanently. Anyway to fashion some sort of rudimentary lock? Perhaps on the rear?

Use the glove compartment ? You could always try something but that may destroy your cars look. I just keep my stuff in the trunk or glove box.

So the cellphone is plugged into the charger and the ipod is plugged into the aux adapter...can't use the glove box (no way I'm gonna assemble and disassemble that rat's nest). I'm hoping there's some sort of wedge-type lock or some way of installing a small plunger or something hidden...even with minor drilling.

I found that if you put a cd case in spine first it is tall enough to prevent you from being able to slide the center console back. to open just lean the CD case diagonally and the console will open. Yeah, I have too much time on my hands.

why even lock it? no one knows it's in there but you....i leave my ipod in there all the time..if someone broke into my car, the ipod would be the least of my worries...putting a visible lock on there would make the thief more tempted to break into your car.

Ha! I was just thinking that. I did the same thing yesterday by accident. Had a devil of time getting the damn thing to open again.

I would think some sort of drilling would be required, but I"ll keep an eye out. I'll play devil's advocate here, too, and say that if you do any mods, you might want to make sure that it will stay closed securely even when not in use. My Alero was recalled before because the conolse cover wasn't secure enough and could come loose in an accident.

A lot of people use Valet services....so it does become an issue if you have your IPOD or cell phone in there.

Exactly. Also at the car wash or when I run inside quickly and leave people in the car. Not always theft but sometimes just prying eyes or snooping. Doesn't have to be fort knox.

After I get some type of wireless remote capability on my ipod so i don't have to touch it frequently, the center console would stay locked at all times and unlocked/opened as needed. also in my center console, i keep all my backup keys (mailbox keys, house backdoor keys).
