But i couldn't find a good spot to mount the portable navi. Originally i wanted to mount it on the center concole on the wood grain finish, but the suction on the mount being so big i couln't put it in a spot where it wouldn't be in the way. Plus the navi is pretty big itslef

But i tried driving with it mounted on the wood grain finish.. and its doable but akward for how i like to lay my right hand when i drive. But at the same time I would have to look down and take my eyes off the road.

Maybe i'm just use to having it mounted right under my review mirror, but for me thats the best spot. because my eyes are constantly on the road... but i was thinking for the oem navi, you would have to look down to see the screen... the angle on it isn't bad, maybe its just something you have to get use to.
What about a kuda mount? There is one for the IS, I had it for my iPod. Link

For those of you who live in a neighborhood with Redlight cameras, you can add the intersections where the camera is located as a memory point WITH SOUND. Whenever you get close to 0.5 miles of those memory points, sound will play as a reminder not to run any red lights. I find it very useful in Fremont, CA where a lot of cameras are installed at the big/busy interesactions.

IMO, it's better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

i've had many instances where the nav system came in quite handy. plus, the fact that it's neatly integrated w/ the rest of the car makes it worth its price. granted, no real-time traffic updates or HDD's to store music, but i have no use for the former, and i have an ipod to negate the latter.

Anyone know if it is possible to go to the dealership and have them upgrade and swap out the standard console with the navigation system?

Or where to purchase a new/used OEM Nav system for an '07 IS250?

I ask because I recently was relocated by my company and will now be doing sales calls in a whole new area of the country I am unfamiliar with and would be interested in getting the Toyota/Lexus nav system installed into my car.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

it'll be a pain to swap out the whole console to make it nav i'm assuming and it prolly cost you more than just upgrading with nav. option. =) I suggest you get the navi cuz it's very useful when u do need it, nice looking, and you can do more to it (hacking-wise). When people come into you car for a ride and they see the navi/ back up camera ...you gonna hear the "OooOOOOOooo nicce"

what a great feeling . =P

Technically possible. But from a practical side, forget it. Cheaper to sell your car and buy one with factory NAV. Second hand parts will cost you about $3,500 + labor to install it. Not cost effective. A few have done this conversion, but it's not for the faint of heart. You have different buttons on steering wheel, backup camera, etc, etc., not just the head unit.

I'll bet the dealer wouldn't even do it. This is a situation where I would vote for a Garmin, rather than OEM.

And for about 1/10th the price of the factory Nav you can buy an aftermarket unit that doesn't cripple itself when you put it in drive and still have bluetooth, plus can do realtime traffic, play mp3s, and when time comes to upgrade the maps it'll be $75 instead of the $300 lexus charges.

Only downside is it's not built into the console... but you save like 3 grand and it does more, plus you can move it to another car if the need arises.

well a luxury car is suppose to have all the high tech stuff built in... point of a luxury car... you never see a luxury car with just the standard and no options whatsoever...The console is also for better looks and such... the non nav looks cheap and ugly...

Well, in your opinion...

Myself I like having the stereo and AC info on their own displays.. plus I prefered my not-crippled-while-driving Garmin unit to the OEM one.

I special ordered specifically to get the Sport Pkg and ML system -without- Nav... I was already paying X over invoice for whatever options I wanted, so negotiating didn't really make much difference there.

Not to mention, non-nav cars hold resale value better for those into that kinda thing.

If you're someone who finds the look of the car $3000 better with a nav screen built in, then that's worth it to you, despite the feature shortcomings and overpriced map updates... it wasn't to me though.

Is it worth it to spent $5000, maybe $6000 to retro fit a nav system into your car; or take big hit to trade in a car less than a year old just to get nav??--no way you are going to convince me of that. I'll buy it at the initial purchase, but I'm not doing that.
