always get the filter changed when you get an oil change. Brands of oil dont mean much according to some studies ive read.

X2- a oil change is nearly useless if you do not change the filter. Words to live by. As HeferGM said read your manual. It's a good place to start. There are suggestions there on the weight (?) to use.

They aren't suggestions. They're requirements for engine oil type and weight.

Why would you be changing you oil anyway? I have almost 4k on mine and it just now flagged me for service. I would wait until the car says you need to change it. Sometime manufacturers put other break -in additives in with the oil and want you to wait for that first oil change. I'm not sure if Lexus does that.

Long long ago, in a car universe far far away, manufacturers would sometimes spec a factory fill that had high levels of moly to promote breakin. I can't think of any case where that's done these days. The easy way to find out would be for someone to have an oil analysis done of the factory fill.

I am going to change my oil right at 2000 miles with Havoline 5W-30. This oil has one of the highest concentrations of Moly in it for dino oil and provides excellent PAOs. General concensus of knowledgeable motor oil subject matter experts is that it is one of the best bangs for your buck. im concerned that changing the oil anywhere besides the dealership would void the warranty on the car

Nope -- You are protected by the Magnusson Moss Act. In a nut shell, if the dealer tells you you must have a regularly scheduled maintenance item performed at the dealership or your warranty is void, they must provide the service for free. You can have it done anywhere you like, even by yourself if you save recipts and proof of disposal, as long as you use the same grade or better of oil/filter/air filter/etc as suggested by the manufacturer.
