Navigation Hack DIY Part One - Enable DVD, Phonebook & MP3 Folder While Moving
I completed the overrride this past weekend with the help of these great instructions and responses with additional tips. My DVD now plays without the parking brake on and phone book is accessible while moving. I thought more GPS functionality would now be available but that is not the case.
Here are a couple tips that may have been mentioned before:
Make sure you don't cut a white wire unless it has a silver patch on it! I almost cut the wrong wire and this may be what some who are having issues are doing.
Also, the air vent above the system is a pain to get back in correctly so if you have a problem make sure and take the whole thing out and attach the cover before putting them back in the dash.
If anyone knows how to enable the other GPS functions while moving that is what I really wanted and this does not do that.

No you will not be able to enter destination in GPS while moving. I just did this Saturday and that is still disabled when you are moving. Wondering if anyone knows how to FULLY disable all of the override crap they have on this unit.
This is a great thread. I'd like to thank the thread starter but he seems to have moved on. The followup posts by others were helpful as well.
This procedure was problem free for me, not a scratch. As FIG mentioned, the complete vent assembly came out for me too, not just the bezel. Once the release tabs were "down," I was able to put a screwdriver into the hole behind the tab and pull back a corner of the vent which I grabbed with my fingers, and then lightly worked it back and forth until it was freed. In my case, it came out easily, no trouble at all.
My objective was to get the DVD-Video to play (ML) while moving, which it now does. NEAT!!!
Mine is the 2008 IS F....thanks to all who shared their experiences, especially the pioneers who worked this out several years ago on the IS*, and FIG for pointing out that his vent assy came out as a unit. It made it worthwhile to read the whole 47 pages of the thread, since good information was still being posted.

Thanks for the pics. They helped alot. This actually works. Had someone help do some splicing and cold soldering. The hardest part is removal of the vents. I placed the SL2Vi from Vais at the same time. Now i can play iphone mp3s and movies on my dvd while driving. Uses controls on steering wheel.
I have a 2006 IS250 AWD w/nav and no ML. I want to do the nav hack to enable mp3 browsing and phone dialing and the dest hack to enable setting a destination while driving. I believe these are mutually exclusive. I would like to be able to select either standard, nav hack or dest hack by a switch.
I believe this can be done and I have marked an electrical schematic from a service manual showing the wiring change. I would like to get review and comment by others before I implement it. See attached pdf. Thanks.
Switch (single-pole double-throw) Position and Operation
1 - Standard (factory) operation
Off - Dest hack (J50-14 pink is cut)
2 - Nav hack (J50-14 pink is cut and wire loom end is connected to P1-16 and P2-4 white)
If I have misunderstood any of the thread messages and have incorrectly drawn the required wiring changes, I would appreciate corrections. If somebody has already installed a switch to implement this functionality I would greatly appreciate your posting it. Thanks.

GUYS....i have not read the 48 pages of this thread but the only thing that keeps the NAV from being disabled is the lack of a switch between the 2 wires that get cut and connected together......You can see the 3rd gen GS thread I created on this and see how the switch is implemented
