He united all of Scandinavia... Ericcson and Nokia were two of the companies that created Bluetooth, and they're Scandinavian.

I had my last Nav in my car since Mar 2000 and today it still hasn't gotten out of date. Who told you they go out of date that fast?

 

Maybe not where you live in KS, but here in CA, the nav discs are out of date before they are published. It takes about 1 disc rev to get last years maps, they will NEVER be 100% up to date unless you have OTA updating.

 

The growth rate here in CA is outrageous. There are new streets and communities added to cities almost on a daily basis out here it seems like.

 

I guess I meant out of date as to become unusable, do the phone numbers change, do the streets change and therefore the routes don't work? Things do change here if you punch in Radio Shack there are 10 of them but the Nav only shows 8. So the disc get updated every year so it's not that bad; how often does the Lexus disc get updated? You're right it will never be 100% but neither is the telephone book, doesn't mean you shouldn't bother with it.

And just for the record, every city that I've been to with my Acura (Dallas, San Antonio, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, NYC, and Denver), the Acura Nav has been nearly perfect in locating just about everywhere I'd want to go including the roads. I drove all over the NY/NJ area and it was nearly flawless. I have yet to resort to another form of navigation because my car's Nav let me down.

 

I guess that depends. If you're travelling thru a unfalmiliar location, and the nav says to turn right, and there in no road to turn onto. You may get temporarily lost (ie. not on a road the nav knows about) and you'll have to find you own way back to a road it does know about. I wouldn't want this to happen to me in, say, Detroit. I guess that's why they put the legal disclaimor in. I was once on a highway that had been widened from 2 to 6 lanes, and in the process moved 100 yds from the old highway. The nav kept yammering for 20 minutes to get back on course. Very annoying.

 

that's why you double confirm your route to make sure the routes are passable. The NAV is meant to be a guide, not the definitive source in geographical mapping.

 

That's why all the leagal diclaimers on startup. But your comment makes no sense. If you're unfamiliar with an area or just passing through, HOW DO YOU DOUBLE CONFIRM YOUR ROUTE?!?

I think its worth it. I like haveing the screen in the car better than the traditional set up. I mean as far as getting lost I dont get lost at all. I know the area no prob and if I get in traffic I know how to get around it. But there are always those rodes that you dont know if there dead ends or what the nav would be good for that. Plus I like that fact that you can look for the nearest food places around you when your out so you can see what you options are. Thats just me though.

 

Exactly, Keely. Even if you are one of those people who almost always drives in areas you know well and never gets lost, the nav can still help you. A few days ago it showed me a route from midtown west to the West Side Highway that I never would have thought of on my own, and it's definitely faster than what I would have done. Plus, it's great to be able to tell it to find gas stations, or where the nearest rest stop is on the highway.
