Default ML without NAV

Hi y'all
Im new into the lexus world. I live in Switzerland, Europe and plan to buy the IS350 in the U.S. and take it to Switzerland because there is only the IS250 available in Europe....
Let me ask you some questions:
-On the Lexus.com website there is the option of NAV with ML or the NAV alone, but no ML without NAV.
I checked on carsdirect.com and there you could opt for ML alone for i guess 904$...
Now I really don't get it anymore...
-Is there a button in the car where you can switch between english and metric systems, so that it shows km instead of miles on the odo and L/100km instead of mpg for the gas mieage and °C instead of °F for the temperature
Can somebody help me out here?
Thanks,
Edo

i think you might be able to get ML only by special order but you dont get all of functionality... What you could do is get European DVD map for IS350 and use it... As to the metric measures, I would suppose there should be an easy way to change them...

Default Nav

Thanks a lot. The problem is, they keep telling me that U.S.-model Navs don't work in Europe... not because it's the wrong dvd... i never understood why it shouldn't, but there's gotta be some reason...
maybe anybody here in the cl-forum knows... ?!?

why wouldnt it work? unless it takes in different kind of disk, which I doubt... Also, US version might not have all the features of Euro version so there might be some slight differences there.

Best way to find out is to find someone on CL that is willing to try your DVD from europe (you can backup someone else's dvd from IS250)...

I'd be curious about this as well. My dad asked about this on his RX, and Lexus said "no". Would need to replace the whole A/C unit and gauges.

Could the DVD Nav not work be because of the difference between PAL and NTSC?

well I really don't get that... i mean, isn't there a simple button to switch? after all the speedometer also shows mph AND km/h, right? and even most american cars have that button, e.g. ford, cadillac and probably all the other gm brands as well... some of these cars cost half of what the IS350 costs....

Perhaps its an option that can be set at the dealer.

I dont think so. The gauge cluster is not electronic.

Metric is in the KMPH inner ring though.

Not sure about the Temperature though

thanx, edo
in general Japanese cars do have a button to switch between English and metric for the temperature and trip computer (not the speedometer, though). Even IF it didn't, it's not that big a deal as these displays are not essential for your daily driving enjoyment in the IS (most people just set the automatic temp and forget about it). This shouldn't be a deal breaker for you if you love the car that much to want to import it from the US.
