Prospective First Time Lexus Owner Needs Advice
Hi All:
Im looking to get out of my crappy 05 TL (will likely be bought back) long story, bottom line Acura customer service sucks a long one.
Anyway, I liked the cost/feature ratio of the TL and will be looking to gettin a IS, I know that it wont be as cost effective as the TL but I was wondering how much a comparibly equipped IS250 would run over the price of a TL with navi which stickers at $35,500.
Also, I would liek to know how long do you guys estimate before we can see some real deals on the new IS's because I really can afford to wait a little while for inventories to build up just to get a better deal.
Thanks!

Hrm - coming from a TL are you sure you're after the IS250 rather than the 350?
An IS250 shouldn't run over $35,500 period, if it does Lexus has made a huge mistake. The IS250 is a competitor of the TSX, not the TL. If their IS250 pricing bleeds over into TL/G35/325i territory...well, that won't be good. There is no official pricing that I am aware of, but IS250's should run from 30-34k and 350's should be anywhere from 38-42k.
As for getting deals, I really have no idea. I'd imaging you could get a deal right away, though it depends on where you are.

Yes, I considered the IS350 heres my thoughts: (please cite me on any faulty logic).
TL=Second to none in value
TL standard features=xenon, power driver and pass seats, dvd audio 6cd indash, bluetooth, dual mode and zone climate control, leather, moonroof, voice command, plus optional navi for $2,000
I really would like to keep as many of these features when moving to the IS however loading up these in a 350 seems to be a major price hike.
I can fathom a 250 even easier given the absurd gas prices right now and that there are estimated 70%+ of all IS's will be 250 = more liklihood of a killer deal on a 250 over 350?
Agree with this logic?

I've actually been comparing the TL to the IS250 recently. For the same price, I would definitely go with the IS assuming it has Nav + Premium Luxury Plus. It's got so many features that the TL is missing (SmartAccess, rear-view camera,...), but the TL has the edge in the size department. But, if the IS starts getting $1K or more expensive than the Acura, it's going to be tough to pass up such a great value.
Yes, the smartaccess, rearview camera, and push button start are all major pluses that the TL lack. Also, one thing that bugs me about the TL is the lack of auto on headlights! Isnt that something, my brothers frickin altima has that!
The IS will have auto on standard right?

One cautionary note is that the IS backseat is definitely smaller than the TL's.

My main concern is how would 2 six foot 170 adults feel in those back seats on a long trip.
I know 3 back passengers is out of the question even though the car is marketed as a 5 seater.
I do see your logic, and it makes perfect sense from a features standpoint.
I guess I was looking at it originally from a power perspective, not a features perspective. On the features side the IS has the advantage, but even though the Tl is FWD I personally could not give up 54hp and 48lbs/ft of torque, even for the features and RWD/AWD of the IS250. We're talking an esitimated 0-60 of 7.9/8.3 depending on the drivetrain, and a 16 second 1/4 comapared to 5.7 to 60 in the TL and ~14.5 1/4. I hate quoting times as much as the next guy, but a two and a half second difference to 60? That's mammoth. Needless to say there is going to be a significant power difference.
I'd wait to see what pricing looks like then see if you can get into an IS350. Just my opinion of course. I really shudder to think of a downgrade in power, but again, that's just me. If you don't find you need the extra hp/torque then the IS might be a good fit, just make sure you're ok with the backseat size.

That's very true - I'm feeling the gas crunch in my car, too. Either way, if you're not concerned about the power disparity definitely drive one, and if you like it you've got a pretty straight-forward choice. The IS definitely has the best set of options in it's price range, as far as I can tell.
guys dont get too far ahead of yourselves. Lexus and the dealership network will meet next week to firmly set the prices of the models and optional equipment. I was told that the published price estimates are far too misleading. If there is any indication where Lexus is going with the pricing....remember these words that were told to me earlier:
"We at Lexus would not build or sell a car the people cannot afford..."

Value is an odd propostion. Is value getting something that "looks" like the real thing, or the real thing priced less?
