hey guys,
anyone hear if the is350 paddle shift has adj shifting levels a la m3? I know its not as performance oriented but wanted to see if it was a manumatic or more like an smg II box.

I haven't heard anything like this. I'm pretty sure we would have heard something about this already, although almost any transmission thread in this forum is a complaint about the lack of a 6M with the 3.5.

Edit: I think there's the "ECT POWER / SNOW" button in the car itself too, that adjusts the shift points, I know that much.

 

I did read somewhere that the paddle shifter are indeed metal.

 

Its not an SMG type tranny, its your regular "auto with switches" type tranny. Think of it as a new and improved e-shift.

The adjustment levels on SMG's control the speed at which the clutch engages. From a slow feathering-like motion, to an on-off pounding of the clutch. Since there's no clutch on the 350, there won't be any kind of adjustments like this.

Thats what I heard as well. I think they're supposed to be plastic, yet look and feel very similar to metal.

people are funny... They can not be metal, period. Problem with having metal is that it heats up easily on the sun and gets cold in the winter. While being cold might not matter much, having hot metal at your fingertips is not an pleasant experience.

I have to remove during summer my TTE shifter since it is all metal and gets so hot that you cant change gears, even with gloves...

So them nothing being metal has nothing to do with saving 0.0000002$ (which is about how much possible saving might be).

 

I'm guessing that it's the same material (except a matte paint instead of a chrome) that the current IS's shift **** is made out of.

They're a hard plastic. dunno about metal. Perhaps metal looking?

 

Yeah lol my friend burned his hand on his shiftknob after he got the car. He had a new shiftknob within 24 hours

 

 

One question that I haven't read an answer to. Is it a pull or push lever? I sure hope it is pull. Otherwise what is the point of copying an F1 paddle shift?
