Default P0335 Crank Position Sensor - false code?

I'm working on a newly purchased 2010 IS350C with 200,000 miles. It starts and runs perfectly, except I get a persistent P0335 error code. If I clear the code, it pops back immediately. I'd rather not tear into the engine to remove alternator and AC compressor, if it's really not necessary. Is there such a thing as a phantom code? Or should I assume the error code is valid and tear into the sensor replacement job (even though the car runs perfectly)?
