Default Alcantara Dash - Anyone done it?

I have a 2007 IS350, and I love it. I got it in 2014, I took it in for he dash recall, the dealership told me that it wasn’t exhibiting the issue enough, I had other things to focus on, and now several years later the dash has become sticky and it’s outside the 10 year window to get Lexus to replace it.

I’m considering getting an Alcantara wrap put on the dash by going to a car upholstery shop. Does anyone know what to expect that would run? Has anyone done it? It’s tough to understand where the passenger side airbag deploys from, would the wrap interfere with that?

I searched for threads on this but didn’t see much, maybe I missed it, but it seems like something someone would’ve done already.

thanks in advance

I believe @PAVGR had it done in leather. That's the only forum member I know off. Seen some guys doing it them selves on YT. All in all, in spite of being THE PROBLEM of the 2nd gen, the community has been really bad with coming up with solutions. It's f***ing frustrating, this being 2025 and fixing melting plastic seems like one issue we can't solve

a brand new dash is 300$ from Lexus. You have to put it in yourself but at least its brand new and a genuine Lexus part. mine is sitting at my dealership right now ready for me to pick up

Actually this illustrates the core of the issue with Lexus as a brand. They only care about their reputation in the US market and go out of their way to appease the US customers (or are scared shitless of class action lawsuits ). So first they offered 10y warranty for the dashboard in the US (which many forum members took) and now they are giving them at half the price they charge the rest of the world for. New dashboard (55400-53909-C0) is 530$ ordered from Japan (plus cca 100$ delivery to EU). At the local stealership I was quoted around 1200$ 3 years ago (with them flat out refusing to do the swap, "too complicated" )

Btw you are forgetting the door panels, they cost 500$ a piece even in the US I believe, ordering from Japan is around 1000$ a piece...

So IMO big part of the reason Lexus community sucks at this, is because Americans don't care. And as usual, in the western world, for anything to happen, Americans have to take charge first

Sorry for the late response this is mine made 5 years back. The problem is that the door panels have the same issue as the dashboard and these are the expensive ones so I’ve done everything wrapped in leather and I really love it and looks like new

New dash in EU was 800+ EUR with 20% dealer discount back in 2021. New door panels 1000+ so forget about them.
Local upholstery shop quoted 700 EUR to cover door panels with PU leather/vinyl.
Managed to find a set of mint 2012 door panels from junk jard over 2 year search, wrong color bottom so took them apart. These have been sitting about a year now to be swapped.

Man it looks good . However IMO, to pull it off, car needs to have bright leather interior to begin with. I'm not sure how would it look like with cloth / alcantara or black leather... Btw personally I'm not fan of alcantara on the dash, or the panels. Some people think alcantara looks sporty, well it does - on the seats (more gripping than leather). On the panels it juts looks tacky IMO, but that's just me...

Black, just pictures came out like this. Although new dash is a shade lighter than the old one, and these door cards seem to be also like this.

There are actually two colors of the new dashboard, black and "grey". Grey is very dark, almost black, but noticeably different than black one, so I recon you have it.

Btw I've sent an inquiry to local Lexus dealer for for the dash. Asked for 55400-53909-C0 specifically without giving them my VIN number, cause I've heard old one was twice as expensive. Guess what was the quote . 1572.08 EUR! You got to be shitting me, they are pocketing almost 50% of what they are reselling (ok there's import tax and fee around 25%, but still, geez)

This looks great! Have you had any issues with the leather bubbling from sun exposure? Do you know if the passenger airbag would still work ok? Maybe that’s why there’s multiple pieces of leather across he dash is to account for the airbag, or maybe that has to do with the size of what’s available

I have a charcoal interior so I’d have to consider that, but it looks great with the tan interior, love it. Might go with leather over Alcantara.

I also saw something called flocking but I’m not so sure it’s for me.
