Android stereo installed Reverse camera not working is250 2008
Hi All, I have a 2008 is250 with a Mark Levinson system, I bought a android 9inch stereo from Aliexpress and did a lot of research and asked questions , I was told it worked with a Mark Levinson system, I have followed all their instructions but the only thing not working now is the reverse camera, I have been speaking to them and asked if I can use the original camera they keep saying yes but when I connected it I get no signal. They say I have to tap into the reverse line but on the yellow connector there's no red wire that comes out of the yellow connector, does anyone know a way to do this and help me out. I'll put a link to a youtube video to show how I connected it as per their instructions. Any help would be great thank you.
My other question if i get this above wire and an adapter can i connect it between the 2 yellow connectors in the bottom photo and connect one of the red wires to the reverse wire? So i can keep the original camera?
ps: the camera didn't come with the unit.
are you using the OEM camera or an aftermarket? The red reverse line needs to tap into a reverse signal (like a reverse light) on one side, and the reverse signal input on the android unit in order to allow automatic switching to the reverse camera. It is bundled with the yellow RCA cable for convenience so you don't have to string two wires from the front to the back.
For older android units, there is no built in step up converter to allow the OEM camera to be compatible with the aftermarket android as you're looking at a 5v Toyota camera vs a 12v industry standard camera.

I want to use the OEM camera and they said i can use it and not use the aftermarkets camera, but the OEM camera keeps coming up with no signal.

If your unit comes with a canbus adapter, it should receive the reverse signal from it. Does your android unit has a wire that is for reverse signal? If it does, then you can try connect it to the reverse signal pin found on the JQ1 connector by the side of the foot well on the driver side. There is no wire coming out of that reverse pin. So you will need to create your own signal wire using a paper clip soldier to one end of the wire and stick into that pin.
By the way, the reverse signal wire is 12v. The oem camera is 6v. So you can't use the reverse signal to power the oem camera directly. It will damage the oem camera. It better to just go with a new aftermarket backup camera.
i unfortunately have only managed an aftermarket camera, so i really can only comment on that... the reverse camera will need its own power source, which i'm not sure how Lexus OEM supplies that power. But basically the same power source for the camera can also be split in two to become the reverse signal wire going into the head unit to tell the head unit to switch into reverse mode. Typically this power source is tapped from a reverse light.
do you have a video signal tester? If you can detect a video signal by touching that wire when the car is placed in reverse, then the camera is getting power. in this case, all you need is a reverse signal wire going into the android unit to tell it to switch views when necessary.
If the camera is not getting power, you'll have to tap the power in yourself from the reverse light. and a 12v -> 5v in-line step down converter because Toyotas use 5v cameras. Then you can either thread that line to the front of the car, or find a different reverse signal from somewhere else.
Did you ever find the most convenient location to tap the Reverse Signal wire?
I have the same issue trying to install a Carputech unit and it comes with a Reverse Signal wire.
I see the recommendation to go to the signal pin found on the JQ1 on the Driver's side - but I was wondering if there is something closer - either by the shifter itself or on the orginal display unit.
i have heard others say there is a Reverse signal wire (maybe brown?) behind the OEM multi-display unit. I also would think that one of the connectors going to the Shifter under the center console may have the signal, but I have not heard about anyone taping into there.
Also uncovered some old thread where the reverse power / signal is on J50 / J51 Connector or J100A Connector behind the multi-display screen.
Some people found on 2007-2010 IS the blue wire on the J50/J51 connector behind the Display Unit. (some said it's pin 13)?
Others on the 2011+ IS350 found the J100(A) connector (big white connector on the lower right behind the head unit when you take it out).
On the J100A connector, the blue wire is on the farthest side to the right, next to the red wire (pin number 16), it controls the feed 12V to the rear camera view.
Nice, yes ultimately I did find the Reverse signal wire using the recommendation to "connect it to the reverse signal pin found on the JQ1 connector by the side of the foot well on the driver side."
I removed the Driver side lower kick panel and the connector is just under the carpet side.
It is the 3rd pin down on the left side of the connector, mine did have a wire coming out and it was blue, so I just used a wire tap terminal clip and ran a wire under the steering wheel area and back to the center console area under the Stereo. This was for a 2011 IS350 with Navigation and OEM reverse camera (Non ML Audio)
