Default Jacking up from the rear?

Need to do my rear brakes and am currently unsure of where to jack the rear of the car from. The manual says to use the Differential but I’m not so comfortable putting a floor jack there to be honest. I was thinking of just using the pinch welds (of course with a hockey puck on my jack to prevent it from bending). But wanted to see if anyone else had a better idea on where to place the floor jack.

Differential is the correct location.

I've been jacking up RWD cars from the differential for 25 years.

You can jack up the rear using the rear differential, or you can jack up each side by going on the lower control arm, to lift one side at a time. I put my car on stands every winter for storage, never had an issue using differential for jacking it up, I do use a block of wood (2x4) to prevent metal on metal..

+1 on the differential, I've done it multiple times for brakes/rotors/other suspension components on my IS. If you're worried about it falling or moving, lay a few bricks, or your rim/tire, under the pinch welds (you should do this anyways.) Would be a good idea to chock the front wheels.

This past weekend I drove it up on 2x6" for clearance jacked it up by rear diff with a 2x4" between the jack and diff. Sat it jack stands using 2x4" at box frame under the car to swap the rear diff for one with LSD.

I use these pre-lift to get enough clearance for the hydraulic jack.

Those look handy and less savage like than my 2"x6" stack.
The stack was free. There is that.

Rear diff is coming out so we need some elevation.

I used to do what you do but the garage floor in my current house is so slippery that didn't work well so I broke down and bought the rubber ramps =P
