Default high mileage- should I buy it?

Hey guys,

It's been a few years...I had an 01 is 300 back in high school and then an 06 is 350 towards the end of college and sold both.. considering getting back into an is 300. I really miss it and I know the basics on these cars and that they are pretty reliable.

I have a chance to buy an 01 with 183k ... aside from timing belt, what else would you recommend looking for?

It has two codes up p0170 and p0171- for lean fuel. Is there an easy fix? Or is it fine either way? I am looking for a car to beat on and put the miles on and I think this is a perfect one.

If I can get this car for less than $3,500 would it be worthwhile?

Please help me out, I am looking to close a deal tomorrow. Thanks!

Also, with these codes...will gas mileage be hurt? I know it's running lean but doesnt necessarily hinder gas mileage from what I read.

when i had my mazda, a CEL would put the car in a "limp mode" but it does not affect mpg drastically. I noticed a mpg change in my SC when i ran with a CEL, again, by not much. In any event, it should be fixed. 183K miles sounds like a lot of maintenance, but if most has been already done, it should run another 183K miles-just gotta keep on top of it

thanks guys. I may pass, the guy didn't even know when the timing belt was last done but said he did feel it and it was fine. He owned it for four years.

Still thinking about it for now.

I'd buy it for that price, spend some money on it for maintenance and drive it for long time more.

My 01 ASP has 214k miles on it now, shows no real signs of it being 12+ yrs old.
