Default New 2004 IS300

Guys,

Here is a picture of the new IS300 for 2004. I came across this while searching online. I apologize if this is a repost...I am usually in the GS forums.

From what I read, engines to be manufactured by YAMAHA. Why would Lexus outsource engines?

New 2004 IS300... to be released fall of 2004
Yamaha will be producing the motors.

2.4L Inline 4 210HP
2.5L V6 230HP
3.0L V6 260HP
3.5L V6 280-330HP

Hmm..

Yes, it's been posted before. Many agree that it's a photoshop picture.

I can't see why Yamaha would produce a toyota engine though..?

Default Yamaha in the Celica too

Yamaha builds the Toyota Celica 180-horse VVT-i motor too. It's the least reliable engine in the Toyota lineup according to three local Toyota service managers.

I will never knowingly own a Yamaha engine. I have had nothing but trouble with them.

1988 Yamaha SS440 snowmobile
1987 Yamaha SRX250 motorcycle
1992 Yamaha FZR600 motorcycle

All were junk. That said, those Tuning Forkers have had a decade to figure things out. Their motocrossers, sportbikes, watercraft, and ATVs have enviable reputations. But, people who buy those products have no US domestic brand ties, and are largely domestic auto owners. That means they have a different view on reliability, build quality, and engineering progress than, say, Lexus owners.

I test drove a toyota matrix. It was a manual and had the NAVIGATION option. Nice layout but the engine just didnt seem right. I thought maybe it was me.....and the sales guy was like well the engine is sport tune and giving me crap along those lines. It just seemed lound and not very smooth.

I think Yamaha should just keep to making ATV and motorcycles.

Good to know and sorry again for the repost....i was unaware.

Well yamaha made the head for the 3SGTE and that is one of the most reliable and powerful engine toyota has ever made. including the 503 race engine they used in the 800-1000HP IMSA GTP cars.

The matrix engine doesn't feel right because it has no torque (what honda guys want, crazy revs HP on top and no torque below) i drove the XRS with the 6 speed and rung it out but it had no torque down low but good power up to. it prob didn't feel right because most of us are used to using the Lexus 3L V6, 4, 4.3 and 4.7L V8s and 3L I6s, all of these engines have plenty of low down torque.

that car looks like a 2003 accord from the front and a 2002-2003 altima from the rear. I agree the matrix engine sucks.

Default VVTL-i engines are developed by Toyota and Yamaha

http://www.celicas.co.uk/VVTLi.htm

It seems Toyota and Yamaha have involvement since 1965.

The Formula-1 V10 engine was also develop with Yamaha assistance.

As I recall. Wasn't Ford Taurus SHO were using engines produced by Yamaha. The 3.0L V6 was producing 220 HP in early 90's and accelerating 0-60 in about 6.4 sec? That was pretty good for those days.

yes the SHO Ford engines were made by Yamaha, the V8 is most def made by Yamaha i am not sure about the V6.

a hot rodder on TV used a modded SHO V8 in his hotrod and had it revving to 9,000RPM with a fully modded engine.

The 89-95 SHO is equipped with a 220HP 24 valve DOHC V-6 manufactured for Ford by Yamaha.

Looking forward to some interesting engines from Toyota/Yamaha to compete with Nissan's.

Default FORD is an acronym

I was hoping the SHO motor wouldn't come up. In case you don't subscribe to Consumer Reports, you should know that the SHO had the longest-running record of least reliable car in America. It followed an admirable run by the vaunted Olds Cutlass Calais.

If performance is that high on the priority list, you should be in a WRX. $24,000 for the car plus $1600 for the turbo and intercooler upgrade buys you 400 horsepower at all four wheels. And don't forget to bring an SHO along for comparison.

The 82-86 Toyota Supra with the 5M-GE 2.8 in-line DOHC 6 head was manufactured by Yamaha. Same as the 5M-GE used in the Toyota Cressida. These engines were very reliable.
