Default Keys and ecu...

hi there. i run an 2001 is300. my Q is, do you really need a new ecu if you lost your key and want new keys? cause i lost the chip in my keys.. which i cant start my car.. couple days later after getting my car back, i lost my keys.. any help will be nice... new ecu or not?

Since yours is a 2001, you will need a new ECU. But i've heard that there are some locksmiths who can reflash your current ECU. I don't know if this is real or not, but just what i heard.

thanks for your input.. thats what i heard too.. thats why im asking. if theres a easier way to solve this problem. or am i being bs by the dealer. imma check at my local keysmith or locksmith if they got any good solution.

this is true. lexus/toyota didnt offer the "reseed" option for an ECU till 2002 IS. as for a locksmith, im pretty sure you can do that because when i bought my 01 IS it had some aftermarket key without keyless as the master key then i just programed a new lexus key. lexus does also offer a one time free replacement of ecu and keys. they offer this for people whos keys got stolen or like yourself lost. call your local dealership to get the details.
