yep, ive seen that in many places. it wasn't until i saw it in car and driver that i finally believed it. i can't wait. they said there may be a turbo charged 400hp version. i know the IS430 is supposed to compete with the M3, but what is the turbo version going to compete with, it will have no matchup in the bmw lineup, will it?

the supercharged version would be competing with the new V10 M5 coming out soon

Im guessing the supercharged v8 will go in the GS430.
It only seems logical.

I read somewhere that the M3 is going to a V-8 in it's next redesign. So I am guessing Lexus would want to keep on top of the market

ya the next M3 will be coming with a V8 so Lexus wanted to one up them, and we all know how smooth the Lexus V8 is, i think they are doing the right thing.

a V8 IS430 would be a brute, but it would have to come with 320-350HP and lots O' torque to really compete.

and since the 2JZ-GE is such a heavy engine anyway the addition of the V8 shouldn't affect the handling too much. This should be interesting.

See ya

The 430 engine is only like 20 KG's heavier then the IS200 engine, I don't know the weight of the IS300 engine, I think it would be around the same.

Hey

damm that is light, because the IS200 engine is the 3SGE VVT-i iron block (dunno if they changed it for the IS200 but i know it as a iron block) straight 4. If that is true then it is lighter than the 2JZ-GE (if anyone has picked on up you know how heavy it is) and should help the already great handling.

My main complain about the IS300 was always the engine, the 2JZ-GE (the 2JZ-GE really has to be turbocharged to bring out its true potential, 2JZ-GTE in the supra is a monster and that is where it really shines) is a heavy engine and affected the way the car handled. The IS200 engine is lighter and helped the handling a lot.

See Ya

The IS200 engine is a straight six iron block. I think it's a little bit lighter than the 2JZ-GE.

Hey

No the IS200/Altezza is the European/japanese model and they come with the 2.1L 3SGE VVT-i, the North American IS is the IS300 which comes with the 3L 2JZ-GE.

So if the V8 is not too much heavier than the 2JZ-GE that is good, but if it is not that much heavier than the 3SGE that is insane (because i did a 3SGE engine swap into my 1990 Corolla and that engine is pretty light for a iron block 4cly).

But either way it is still going to be wicked to have a V8 in the IS.

The european IS200 does not have the 4cil 3sge, it has a 2 liter straight six, trust me.
They only sell the 4cil. in Japan.

well you were right, but that engine must be the 1G-GUE and they haven't used that too often. That was a mistake, they would have been much better off using the 3SGE.

Sorry my mistake, but is the V8 20Kgs heavier than the 1G-FE? if so that is pretty good.

The 3UZ-FE(4.3l Aluminum V-8) weighs about 55lbs more than the 2JZ-GE(3.0l Iron Block I-6). The 2JZ-GTE(3.0l Twin Turbo Iron Block I-6) weighs almost as much as the 3UZ-FE due to the added weight of the Turbo-plumbing, turbos, etc... One of the 3UZ-FE's strong-points is it's relatively light weight.
