I wouldn't see why you would want to accomplish this. Everything on the is300 is solid. Some will say the w55 tranny isn't up to par, but if the car is na, then really nothing beats what's originally on the car. If you are trying to save money to replace certain parts, then it really depends on the parts. OEM parts are designed for the original car it was manufactured for. There are coincidental instances where people use parts from other cars because car manufacturers want to keep some of their inventory consistent to avoid hundred's of different versions of the same part. In that respect, then yes, you can use OEM parts from other cars, but in the end, OEM is OEM, and using OEM from another car is really just a misconception of it being "better." It really all depends on design, health, and the age of the particular part.

Are you keeping the car stock or do you plan on making performance mods later? Like mentioned before, I can see the trans being an issue, but the w58 isn't necessarily "better" for a stock setup IMHO...the only other thing I can think of is cosmetic changes, like steering wheel, shift ****, etc...from other Lexus' or Toyota's.

You can get TRD upgrades, such as bushings and sway bars. You can also get an Mk3 Supra Clutch Type LSD for drift. If you plan to boost, you should look into a R154, V160, or V161 tranny. I don't plan to boost, so I never looked into upgrading my W55. Figure out your budget, and start upgrading your suspension.

The thump is normal. Once you drive it for a while, you figure out how to make it stop making the noise. From what I've read, the noise is caused by slack in the drivetrain and shifting technique. If you rev match your shifts, the shifter will slide right into place with minimal effort...and no thump.

Here's a good thread for people new to the IS300. http://my.is/forums/f87/do-i-have-ls...k-more-300932/
Here's a quote from that thread:
I'm pretty sure all US IS300's have VVTI. Pop your hood, and you should see VVTI on your timing gear cover.
From what I've read, the W55 may be able to hold up to ~350hp as long as you don't beat on it. I don't have any FI experience, so don't take my word for it. You can do some research by following this link: http://my.is/forums/f114/transmissio...-links-351988/. Here's another link for FI info on the IS300: http://my.is/forums/f114/new-forced-...inside-346858/
Here's a quote from that thread:
How to tell if my IS300 has LSD?
Look at the sticker on your driver door sill/jamb, look for the area that reads "A/TM"
You'll see numbers such as B02A, B02B, B02C
A=no LSD
B,C = LSD
If you are still unsure, call 1800 25 LEXUS and ask them to look up your VIN and they can tell you what options it came equipped it from the factory.
If you bought your car second hand, there is a possibility the owner of a non-LSD IS300 swapped in a factory LSD, if this is not disclosed, it makes things a bit more challenging.
Here are pics and info on how to distinguish the two by looking at the gears;

The methods of doing a burn out and checking if there are one or two tire marks / jacking up the car and spinning the wheels are somewhat debated and I am unsure if this is a valid way of determining if your car has lsd or not.
