The paint isnt bad! Its whats done before it gets shot. Now if you did all the prep work, then $350 isnt bad. By then, you might as well just go rent a paint gun and do it yourself

I would drive aroung and find a clean shop, that does aftermarket kits. And has pics of there work. Thats the kind of shop you want to look into. Dont pay more than $3k, or your just paying there bills for the month

 

Well there $350 paint job they use single stage paint which just isnt gonna shine like the factory paint......macco is ok for a cheap project, not for a lexus.

 

Maaco, isn't all that bad. It's what they call you get what you pay for. You got the cheapo paint jobs from them then the average, which can cost on up to $1000.. Now for a lexus I would recommend a high end paint job, base, clear. But if you just have a average car then a maaco paint job isn't too bad, including if your paint is faded or chipping.. But I use to work at a maaco for prep and bodywork and depending on what the client wants we can do some real nice jobs. We've had high end vehicles come in before(corvettes, bmw's, mercedez's etc..) and we did some really nice jobs on those. Be ready to pay for it, but they're still close to 1/2 off regular shop. I normally buy my own clear coat, and remove most of my own trim, then let them prep and spray it. They usually do a ok job, plus tell them to use the high end primer and not the lacquer stuff which can shrink over time. Good luck..

 

i f'ed up by going to maaco. i spend $500+ to "fix" my passenger rear fender. i never had to get a car fixed, but i used them based on seeing their tv commercials.

now i have an alrite bondo job that almost follows the body line (not quite as sharp edges) and a half *** paint job. i work on military aircraft and i think i couldve done a better job, if i had the time and tools. oh, and now i run the risk of cracking the repair if i try to roll my fender. no bueno.

in all it looks alrite if u dont look at it for too long. i shouldve done more research and looked around first. or look both ways when backing up. lesson learned... for now.

 

i wouldn't paint my whole Lexus at Macco, maybe a bumper or gas cap. Like everyone has said, you get what you pay for. If your mom has an old 89 corolla, go for it, don't devalue your IS for 350 bucks. The don't use the high quality paint like dealers do and the protectant seal over the car isn't high quality so expect paint chips to come quicker and easier.
