Default Help!!! timing Belt???

Someone please help me. I was wondering at how many miles do i need to change my timing Belt at? I have a 2001 IS 300 and it has 88750 on the odometer. I recently started hearing this very faint thumping sound in the motor (front of the car) but only in the mornings, and if i need to change the timing belt what other components do i need to change along with it???

A OEM timing belt is about $25. It is cheaper to go through Toyota vs Lexus, but no much cheaper. If there are any creditable shops in your area, I would check there first.

Good Luck

the lexus dealership was telling me i needed to change the water pump when i did the timing belt and also some of the compression seals. Does anyone know about installing bigger cam gears, what does this do for the horse power of the car and will it give me better fuel mileage if i upgrade. what are the recommendations on this? i am almost at 90k miles, please help, i am in the air with this matter. thanks guys...

You do need to change all that stuff when you change the timing belt. I got mine done for $950ish. Lexus will charge you about $1,300.

You can check your timing belt and see if there are any cracks on it. I pushed it till 98k miles.

Upgrades will never give you better milage. Cam gears are adjustable and with proper dyno tuning it will increase your horsepower significantly.
