Buying An I300 suggestions (help)
I use to own a 1991 toyota mr2 turbo but recently sold it. I'm looking at a 2001 IS300 around 13k with 98k miles on it. Is there anything I should know about these cars with high mileage. any common problems that people goes through? Anyone have more than 100+k on their cars? If so, what problems did you go through? Was it expensive to fix?
The owner said the car had all the belts and the water pump changed before he bought it through the dealer about a year ago and he is selling the car because he bought a new car.
I have only limited money to spend but dont have much to spend if the car has major engine problems. let me know because I might look at it this saturday. thanks for your time

i have an 01 is300 e-shift with 106k miles for $11500. it has new tires, waterpump replaced, 90k mile service doen for $1500 less with 8k miles more.
Just had to get that out there. Otherwise, these cars are really reliable. It sounds like he's changed everything that goes bad on the car. The Waterpump has been changed, which i also had done, but ask if he's done the 90k mile service, which is pretty expensive.
Dont forget to check the vin number of the vehicle and make sure it is clean Title. As for me, like i said, i have 106k miles on my car, and i havent had to do much to it. The brakes and rotors are being replaced soon, but like on any car, those need changing at certain intervals of mileage.
Another thing to ask about is the o2 sensors. On almost everyone's IS300, this will have had to have been replaced. Mine was replaced at 85k miles. 02 sensor bank 2. If your check engine light comes on, this would probably be one of the many reasons.
Other than that. Great car, you won't have anything to worry about as long as you keep up with scheduled maintenance.

Good info, just wondering if anyone knows if a white/black 02 manual comes with lsd?
There is one for sale local with 110k miles for 13k. For what I heard these cars can take abuse and the mileage should not be a problem!

you have to check the vin number to see if it came with lsd. I could be wrong, but LSD wasnt standard on manuals, it came as an option? again, i could be wrong, but i know you have to check the vin to know if the car has lsd. unless you have the original window sticker.
btw: 110,000 miles for $13k? and mine wont sell for $11.5k w/ 106k miles? i mean not that my car is still for sale, but that's whack. lol
good luck with everything prospective buyers

Just to put my price across... in the middle of December, I purchased a 2002 IS300 silver/black with 82,000 miles for $12,500. The windows were already tinted, it came with the spoiler, as well as a preinstalled Kenwood sub...
Im surprised that 2001's with 110,000 miles are being sold above that.
Good luck with the sale

i had an offer for my 01 w/ 105k miles at the time, for $12300. you got a great deal with that 02 for $12500. is it clean title?
Ca is a bit different than georgia, that's probably the biggest reason you got for so cheap. Around here, an 02 for $12500 and clean title cannot be had, and if it can, please inform me

IIRC, I only replaced for a broken light bulb in my 5 years with my IS300.
A very reliable daily driver.
2001 had a couple recalls. Bad OEM tires, and undercarriage plastic, both covered warranty..
