Yeah manuals aren't very easy to come by. I chose e-shift for commuting purposes. I would have gone with another manual car if my daily commute wasn't so erratic and demanding.

How strong is the 5-speed auto on the IS?? If you were to turbo- or supercharged it, then is it strong enough over the long run?? Is this the same auto that is used on the GS430??

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes! But not when you're tired out from a 500+ mile trip. haha.

you mean manual IS300 is not good? i would take 5 speed over e-shift any day (any day)if i want to have fun driving, but if you live in like heavy traffic area and your main purpose is as daily commuter car, then go for e-shift. But 5-speed has lots of fun than e-shift. 5-speed with 2JZ whhoo hooo.

well, granted that the auto will hold more hp over the manual, that's something to consider too. the manual can hold up to about 300hp at the wheels, and i think the auto can do 350 at the wheels, so there you go. but if you don't plan on putting turbo, etc... that's a non-issue

Default Manual or automatic?

If you live in and drive in light traffic conditions or in an area without a lot of stop lights, speed bumps, etc.... the manual is OK, both for better gas mileage and better pickup. Otherwise, by all means, go with the E-shift. There is nothing worse than a clutch in long traffic jams. The real answer to your dilemma is the BMW-style sequential clutchless F-1 style manual, but Lexus doesn't offer it yet.

I might add that in most areas automatics are easier to resell and bring more trade-in value....unless you find a real enthusiast who wants your car.
