I've been experimenting with manual shifting in full auto, overriding the auto shift, and it doesn't seem to be as responsive as the manual setting. Shifts are not quick, you don't get the lightning response when pushing hard. Do you notice this?

 

What you're experimenting with is S mode, which is not the same as manual mode. It's explained best by lobuxracer.
