Exhaust Advice
Correct! That P0430 code is telling you that the cat needs to be replaced. There is a second code as well, what is that one? Unfortunately, proper headers with real cats can be very expensive, but the cheap headers on Ebay for about $100 don't fit the best and have more leaks from what I've heard. Perhaps that would work for you if you don't mind the noise/smell. But then you'd still have the CEL because of having no cats. So since you don't have inspections there, you could leave it alone if you are not experiencing any loss of power or other issues. The cats are still working, just not in perfect shape. It can be a lot of work to try and set up fouler systems successfully on the O2 sensor system to trick the CEL into turning off, but it can be done. Where I am, we do have the inspections, so I had to get a full new catted header, and it fixed my codes.
2nd code reads same thing.
ah good it's the same code, so nothing else to worry about. I haven't ever had to deal with O2 sensor bugging, but yeah there are spacers and elbows and stuff that you can try and hope it works. Otherwise, you'd have to find some sort of computer system made for this car, which I have seen in the past, but I haven't seen any lately. My guess is that most people just drive around with the CEL on.
