This is a really interesting thread. There was a similar thread recently that chose to ignore this and previous threads.

I still say use regular and save money. The money saved can be used to have more frequent oil and filter changes.

This is simply incorrect. Thread is specifically about the 350H, which does not require premium fuel as many have stated already.

There is zero evidence that using regular fuel in the 350H causes engine damage, and suggesting that it would without proof is extremely misleading.

 

Seen too many damaged engines over 60 years caused by using too low an octane.

Lexus did not recommend a high octane for no reason at all.

Most cars are sold or traded in in just a few years and damage is pasted on to the next guy before it becomes apparent.

Remember the damage or shorter engine life is apparent on the back side of the vehicles life not on the front side.

Just because Toyota "Recommends you use Premium fuel does NOT mean it "Requires" Premium fuel.

If you want to jack rabbit start your vehicle and and need to punch the accelerator often and need to check your "zero-60" times regularly and NEED to keep your acceleration times to a minimum, then by all means, indulge yourself so you can sleep at night. In no area does Toyota indicate there is a risk of damage if you use "regular" gasoline of the correct octane level. Let us know when to finish beating this dead horse.......

And, your reference about your last 60 years of damaged engines has to do with outdated technology. Fact.

was once involved in the planning of a new technology center for our company. My main area was IT Computers, Data Communications, and IT Security. Most of the planning and discussion we very smooth except for one area, "what color the plastic chairs in the cafeteria would be' every one had an opinion and no one could agree.

I see a lot of parallels is this thread's discussion about octane. I bow out on any more opinions on this thread's subject.

So we have to know. What color did they end up being?

 

You’ll get better MPG with premium which will offset the additional cost. How much so depends but part/all of the savings by using regular will be swallowed up by having to fill up more often.

 

Again as I noted in the parallel "Premium Gas" thread just do the math. We are talking about maybe the equivalent of a cup of Starbuck's a week in terms of yearly cost impact.
