Default Just pre-ordered nx350H

Hi everyone,

I have been a long time Lexus user and finally today in Toronto, Canada at Lexus on the park pre-ordered an NX 350H luxury package. I had a Lexus RX premium 2013, due to life and ongoing things we just never upgraded but with the oncoming gas crunch, we decided to see how much has Lexus upgraded over the last 9 years. In our test drives, I was left disappointed with the 2022 and 2021 Lexus RX models, the centre consoles and the infernal trackpad remained disappointing. My wife loved the NX 2022 on suggestion and while it is a space downgrade we loved the interior.

I wanted to know if anyone thinks the dealer offered add-ons are a worthwhile idea or what others think are good things to review and get done once you get the car?

I attached the options list given to me including a one-time fee or fee to add it to our financing plan, I deferred decisions until pickup.

I am getting the paint protection for 699 but did not feel other options were worth the markup. I can get tinting done for a good fee outside, is rust proofing, interior protection and a 3-year service warranty even remotely useful?

Just wanted some input from others in Canada who might have brought it and thoughts on these options vs getting any done outside and if there are any good suggestions? I reside on the east end in Scarborough.

Congrats on your pre-ordered. Out of the long lists of add on, the only two items I always get for my new vehicles are tint and PPF. Usually getting tint and ppf done at the dealership are more expensive, but it is more convenient that you don’t need to go anywhere else after you pick up the NX. Tint seems pretty expensive for 2 front side windows as the rear windows are factory tint already. As for the 3m, it really depending on how much coverage it will be on the vehicle. To give you an idea, I can get the full hook, fenders, front bumper, mirrors, a pillars and leading edge of the roof done for $1300 with xpel ultimate plus. Unless my dealer can match that, I will be taking the NX straight to the PPF shop that I have been using for my last 5 vehicles.
There is no discount on my 350h order, but the PDI/admin fee included 3 years of tire only hazard warranty.

We are on a similar path. Also have a 350h coming and possibly trading in my 2013 RX with them depending on the dealer offer.

I ordered my 350h with no add ons and no admin fee but still paid MSRP. Most dealer add ons have an excessive profit margin. The extended warranty for example is 80% profit being the reason they push it so hard. Some buyers take comfort having it but I never did. It has saved me a lot over many vehicles bought.

Just wondering if your dealer offered a trade in value yet on your 2013 RX. I have a dealer appt next week for a trade in appraisal.

Congrats on the new vehicle!!

I had an RX a few years ago and know what you mean about purchasing a new one. I think there is a re-design coming soon.

I used to get NX when my Rx was in for service. I thought it was a good car back then. The improvements and total change now, well that made it an easy decision.

I never buy anything from a dealer. That's just me and I never keep my vehicles very long 12-16 months.

An extended warranty on a Lexus is perhaps not necessary. Guess it depends on how long and how far you plan to drive and own it. I think we will be in electric cars in the next four years whether we want to or not. Maybe you'll trade it in four years and never appreciate the extended warranty. I would pass on that !

You are in Toronto, Just get Krown or Rust Check,,,best stuff out there! Long story about about a 1972 Datsun 240Z.

I would pass on paint protection as well. To many much cheaper options, and a little care once in a while you will get better protection and longer life out of you paint. I have OCD and detail my vehicles daily, major paint correction or polish at least monthly...I am sick! Most dealers just put a coat of some sealant or wax. It lasts as long as any off the shelf stuff you can buy. Get some Wolfgang Sealant 2.0 or similar and enjoy, Heck I'll do it for you if I get to Toronto...I love that kind of stuff. I do a few cars (black) a year for the Local Mercedes Dealer.
Interior protection is a spray can of some stuff...pass!

Tire protection, had it used it, paid for it self. Bought in again because the roads he have so many potholes and construction everywhere...nails nail nails I got the two year package because as the miles add up the warranty becomes questionable especially with the tire wear. Been there!

PPF, never had it until my 2022 NX350....It was installed and displayed in the showroom. Buy the car, had to take the PPF. Dealer was great about it and gave me a deal. Full front end PPF, looks like a great install. I guess the stuff works. Time will tell.

Never heard of a Titan package. I would use my insurance for that stuff. Ding Doctor is fairly cheap if dings happen.

Service Package...Pass, I'll sell my car before the second oil change 32,000 kms.

I know the dealers want to make it easy for people, I just think there are great alternatives with a tiny effort, like from people here!

These are just my opinions and certainly are not for everyone.

I think if you are asking, you are either new to car purchasing, or all ready know some of these add-ons are too expensive or not really required. No offense implied!

Hopefully there are not to many typos...My keyboar is ggiving me a har time....see what Imean!!!

We were in a very similar boat except we did not have the RX - that's just what we started out looking for - either new or certified pre-owned. But when we test drove one, I was very underwhelmed by the tech package - especially "wired" Carplay. My immediate thought was - Carplay in a vehicle like this should be a given, but it should be a given that it's wireless as well. Did some more research and realized it's long overdue for a refresh and, since the vehicle we were trading in got a new redesign the same year we bought ours new, I didn't want to once again buy a new car that instantly looked old and outdated 6 months later. My wife spied a used NX and said "what about that?". One look at the DRL's embedded in the bumper fascia and I said "no way". Again, did more research and found that the 2022 was a different animal and also realized that the hybrid version was $500 less than the turbo counterpart. Anyway, none of that answers your questions OP. To me, most of that addon stuff isn't worth the price, but as long as the dealer is willing to leave it up to the buyer what to addon, then good on them in my opinion. I've seen so many dealers addon certain things and then tell you "it's already on the car, so we can't take it off". We did add unlimited paint-less dent repair and window tint to our deal. The tint, I could have gotten done elsewhere cheaper but that meant making an appt, taking the car and leaving it, then making another trip to pick it up and then "make sure you don't roll down the windows for 48 hours", etc. I paid $299 US for the tint but it's a high quality job and spot on match to the already tinted rear windows. The one thing our dealer did add to the sticker was an exterior and interior protection package and a 3 year warranty that if anything leaves a stain on the inside or out, or a cut/tear on the inside, etc. - it will be repaired/replaced at no extra charge. I would have liked to have had the option to consider and choose whether or not to buy stuff like that but it was still much better than some other dealers. I had spoken to one that automatically added three $399 packages to every car they sell and it was virtually all fluff profit - unlimited nitrogen - $399, unlimited door edge film - $399, unlimited door handle cup film - $399. My intelligence would have been insulted much less if they had just said the sales prices is MSRP + $1200.

i'll decline all of it including paint protection. if you really want it, go get the good stuff from outside detailer be it a quartz coating or whatever..but tbh, unless you're prepared to redo coating every 2-3 years..there's no point. All the other stuff...lol.. .when was last time you lost your key fob? when was last time you hit a pothole so bad you had to repair/replace rim and tire. this is a crossover, not sportscar with some low profile tires. i'll decline all of it

as for ppf and tint... again, go outside for way better stuff... unless they can tell you what type of tint they're using...i doubt it's ceramic or any high end stuff and likely just tinted film

what kind of deal did you get ? i also ordered mine from Lexus on the Park (also 350h luxury) in Jan..no eta yet... i got $847 discount (to offset the admin fee) and cargo liner

I'd check for professional detailers (who install PPF) near you and ask them for quotes. In most cases, the dealer outsources this type of work anyhow, so by sourcing it yourself, you'll likely get better quality work and products, at a similar or perhaps even lower cost.

Hey @DaveDude

My RX 2013 premium has about 150,000 on it and I got a firm 20,000 trade-in set. The new NX 350 H has to be ordered and I was told approximately 3-4 months maybe another month depending on things, so 20K is locked and after I turn it in and all checks out it might go to 21K though doubt that will be the case.

I am getting my car from lexus on the park @ leslie and eglington.

Hey @nitrolada ,

Unfortunately with the market my salesperson and his manager would not budge. We got it as MSRP luxury package at 56,400. My 2013 Lexus RX is valued at 20,000 locked in reducing it to 36400. I only managed to get $500 off by not taking the cargo liner so my price was $55,900 and $20,000 trade-in to $35,900.

As expected of dealerships they were pushing hard for me to add all the above crap, paint protection made sense at the time, so only added that at 699 + tax and deferred any decision on the others until the vehicle is ready to be delivered and I can review then.

Just know you can still cancel paint protection before they get the car if you change your mind . When my mom got her 2019 RX from Lexus on the park (back in days when could get 8800 off lol) they only agreed to take off another$800 ($8000 off plus another$800 off for admin fee) if she got the ecp plan.... We had it removed before pickup and kept the "extra" discount

I guess the 3-4 months is in line since I ordered end of Jan and sales said probably April. I also have trade in (old 2014 Mazda) but sales said they won't value it until they know when the new car is coming.

I ordered my 350H with Luxury package from Don Valley North Lexus. The car was $56,900 (includes the $500 extra for cloudburst grey)) and I got a $500 discount, making it $56,400. However, I also got charged “WEINS CARE” - $699
”Weins” seems to be related to an auto group?

I feel stupid now for not asking
Did I just waste $699?
They told me there were no dealership markups. I declined all extra protection.
After tax, freight, tire levy, air con tax, and omvic, the total came to $67,092.52

Ask what is is. You still may be able to have that removed.
