Default Lexus nx300h

Hi, I’m new to this group, thanks. I have a 2016 Lexus nx300h. I only drive this vehicle in the spring and summer months. I want to keep my battery on a floating charger when I’m not driving it in the fall and winter but I don’t know if I should pull the battery out and manually close the hatch OR connect it to a floating charger while the battery terminals are still connected.

Usually I just leave the battery in the car.

The last time I left it in for a few months, and not been driven, the battery discharged and i had to put it in a floating charge.

Are you using a battery maintaining device such as battery tender? A battery tender should keep the battery fully charge all the time.

That’s what I’m wondering l, should I disconnect the clamps from the battery posts and use my battery tender and not be able to close the electric hatch? OR do I leave the battery clamps connected to the posts with a battery tender (and be able to close the hatch)

I’ve always used the Battery Tender JR from Amazon ($30) for all of my cars/motorcycles and connect the pigtail leads to the terminals. Whenever the vehicle is going to sit for an extended period of time you just plug in the pigtail to the wallcord/battery tender and you are good to go. Just remember to unplug the cord before you leave again...

I just leave everything intact, no need to discount the battery from the car.
