This morning I was hit by a car traveling at rather fast clip from behind me. I happened to be looking at the rear view mirror and saw it a split second before impact. Nothing much I could but just brace for impact. I thought a big Sienna minivan driven with abandon (and no skid marks on the road) would destroy my car (and me). Yet, the pictures tell a different story below.
I'll start with the pic of the car that hit me first.

- Any good auto body shops in the west LA area?
- Is there a typical area of damage that is pertinent to our make and model? Is there an area where many shops overlook?
- How does one tell if there is frame/body damage?
- My car is a hybrid. How do I know if my batteries were/weren't damaged?
You should be able to use the Lexus dealership body shop or they will have a local shop that they partner with. That would make it easier to get a dealership tech to look at it and verify batteries are ok. They probably have a scan tool that can report a generaic "health" of the battery as well. Might be worth calling the dealer just to find out what they can do.
I am interested to hear how expensive the bumpers are to replace with all the little radar sensors that also were busted up.
It'll buff right out. On a serious note, glad everyone is OK.
Looks like 5MPH bumpers did their job. Competent body shop will be able to evaluate the extend of the damage.
If the quarter panels are intact and hood/trunk are all good, your RX lucked out.

The park assist sensors are about $25 a piece, and are pretty easy for someone with small enough arms to replace. Looking at the pictures it looks like he only lost 2 of them.
Of course the manual that the dealer goes off of says to remove the bumper to replace them, and they generally charge the flat rate book price even if the mechanic uses the shortcut to get the job done.
A few years back our RX350 was rear-ended. Luckily no damage to the front. Rear looks similar to yours. They replaced my bumper (around $400) and replaced two sensors at $499 each. All told it ran about $1800 with parts and labor.
A few years later, our Highlander was rear-ended. On top of the bumper cover and a couple sensors (which were only $250 a piece on the Highlander), the entire hatch had to be replaced. That was about a $3600 job if I remember right.
