Clatter when car is in gear with foot on brake?
Hey guys, I just joined today and couldn't find the answer I was looking for. Sorry if it has already been asked! I have a 2008 rx400 with about 197k on it. It's been flawless up untill recently. I have a cooling issue that I need to address but that's not my main issue.
Yesterday, I was parking and heard a ticking/clacking noise coming from under the car. Ii only notice it when the car is stoped in drive or reverse with foot on the brake. The noise goes away when the engine turns off or when I put it in park or neutral. My concern is something is broken in the Regenerative braking system. Any ideas?

What kind of cooling issue? Inverter coolant also cools down motor generators.....
Those power trains are prone to making some strange noise. Lots of concern was with normal brake actuator noise at start up and after shut down. Abnormally, it will run on and off all the time, pointing towards spendy actuator replacement.
Otherwise, biggest question is - when you hear the noise, is ICE running or not?
After first read of your concern, with this in mind: notice it when the car is stoped in drive or reverse with foot on the brake. - I'd be concerned with brake actuator.
Otherwise, you don't really have any gears in PSD, power split device, what is your transmission, similar to automatic transmission. MGs don't really run, when you do not move, unless ICE is running to charge hybrid battery. Hence, in park or neutral, NOT MOVING, nothing really spins in PSD. Neither does ICE work.
I'd recommend to be more attentive this time and pay attention to - is ICE running or not, when I duplicate the issue?
