towing with a 450h, motorcycle, jetski
hello, can a 450h tow a motorcycle on an aluminum trailer or a jet ski ?? was told in a pre-purchase test drive yesterday not to tow with them.
i have to say, not having a great experience so far with the people side of this at the dealer, i do like the product though.

I tow both my jet ski and my Whaler 17. No a bit or a problem.

Towing with 450h
There are two answers.Yes and no. The 450h uses the electric motors in reverse. There is insufficient power to backup an incline if you have a certain amount of weight on a trailer. (Less than 3000 max, amount depends on incline slope) I learned that the hard way backing up a boat ramp in 2010. Had to have AAA tow me out. Forward gears use the ICE, thus not an issue. Likely a jet ski or motorcycle won't be a problem, but towing a 2500 lb boat is.

same rear propulsion (lol) system as in 2010 ?? not that familiar with them,.
trying to find a non F with triple beam and hud, seems there are a few out there, but quite the orphan compared to the rx350

I’ve read your comments several times in, IIRC, multiple posts - and I can’t stand it any longer. I must sheepishly ask you just how you came to need to back your boat UP a boat ramp?I’m not criticizing, simply curious.

Maybe not up a ramp but I have had a steep driveway to backup into my garage.

There is no mechanical connection between the engine and the rear wheels. All the backing power is from a fairly powerful electric motor. And the computer will probably have the engine running to aid in supplying current to the battery pack and thus the electric motor.
Also I'm assuming that those 450h models with 4WD will be using the rear motor to aid in backing up.

The RX450h is rated to tow 3500 lbs. The AWD does power the rear wheels with
a Motor/Generator but the front wheels are mechanically driven with both the IC engine
and a Motor/Generator through the CVT. I suppose if you are backing up then it is
a rear wheel drive plus electric "front" wheels?

It is all electric in reverse from what I have been told.

ggebhardt is correct, looked it up and it's all electric in reverse.

The 450 in reverse is also geared very low so this really should not be a problem in most situations.
