Default Bad block cell 19

here is bad block

Here is cell 19 actually block 19. I have marked down numbers of blocks for easy diagnostic later on. So in my case block 20 is first from driver side and block one is first from passenger side if you looking from back of car. In other cases could be oder order around.

Here was big problem .never use battery gun to increase speed of rebuilding batteries .durring basbur removal one of washers was Cris threaded and we got problem. In case of this problem u can't solve it with making new thread ,will not work in our case .so I had to replace that cell too ,even if cell was ok I had no choice.

After procedure of replacing bad cells with new used one was done we used some tape to keep all busbars covers attached to battery .

The rest of used donor cells we have recharged and put in box for the future ,just in case if we need to replace another cell. Now we will see how many miles we can do per one tank.

Here is one more confirmation that block 19 was bad. So do not let dealer or some untrasty mechanic pull wool over your eyes, with some lame explanation about Hybrid Codes. Really only thing you do is replace bad cell and keep driving.

Default Duct work on hybrid battery. ....

sorry I forgot to mention before when you doing your battery reincarnation please do CLEAN DUCT LINES AND TAKE BLOWER MOTOR MOUNTED ON TOP OF BATTERY AND CLEAN FINS ONE BY ONE.
WE HAVE USED BRAKE CLEANER BUT VERY CAREFULLY TO NOT DAMAGE OF FLOOD ELECTRIC COMPONENT IN IT.
JUST BE CAREFUL..

REMEBER IF DUCT IS FULL OF DUST THAN YOU BATTERY CANT COOL DOWN AND WILL OVERHEAT.

anyway that was just one more reminder at the end.

Cheers.

Nice write up.

224k miles on my original traction battery, I have to reset code every 100 miles.

I intend to have it rebuilt at 250 or 260k miles.

this is regarding 2008 gs 450h mo9del.This time I left one of the module to cause me more troubles dwn the road .shortly after new code poped up..P3017 and P3019 .
well that was new.meaning of those codes are block 7 and block 9 becomes very week.I was wondering why I didnt have those codes before releted to the other bad cells and blocks.it was only general code poping out pa080.

so now was very easy when codtell you which block to replace.
and now it is official 100% on 2008 gs 450h for hybrid battery block 1 IS ON DRIVER SIDE WHEN LOOKING FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR AND BLOCK 20 IS ON PASSANGER SIDE.
Now is easy to replace faulty module when this is clear.
another funy thing this car is getting close to 600 000 km son and no check engine ...ruons like dream.
I didnt post this time any pictures but procedure is the same as before. This time I did again cleaning of bus connectors cooper is still underoxidation .lol donor car this time was camry 2007.

remeber always use trickle charger for new cells to bring themto 8.3 volts before you put them in.

I stillike lexus even with all those hickups it i9s fun to work on it never left
me on side of the road.

cheers.

Wink block 18 low voltage and filing hybrid system

hi there,
there is more observation regarding hybrid battery replacement on this lexus model.Recently I got code FOR HYBRID BATERRY REPLACEMENT BUT DIDNT GIVE ME CODE LIKE BEFORE THAT BLOCK 18 IS BAD.
so after few years of research batteries from prius are not quite good replacement on long run due to capacity.
I had better experiance with camry battery replacement cells.I was storing them in my cold room in basement for long time and all cells from camry are still ok but prius cells are failing after several months. My gs 450h is still runing great but hybrid part is constantly upgrading with new used cells.
maybe it is time to replace this car with another one,but let me tell you this ...newer models are not impress me much.
so far es 300h my other model 2013 is my favourite model to work on it ,everithing is logically mounted no hard spot to reach and it is cheaper on parts that gs model.
but gs has more power and more features like space ship .
anyway that id just mine observation ...next I will post some pics for gs 450h 2008 how hybrid system still has some problems.

Usually starts with those codes. I was surprised that didn't show code for block 18.

Here is freeze frame of the code which tells me cell 18 from Prius needs to be replaced. I have to check also internal resistance because if I remember from last time I have conducted test Resistance wasn't same on all blocks.

The Code was supported with those famous messages on the dashboard.

Second message for same issue. Now if you just clear code ,you can still drive but you didn't eliminate problem.cell must be replaced.

Here is pic after you clear code 😁 But that is just temporary 😁 solution. Looked milage on odometer ....impressive. That is reason why I will again rebuild block 18 and keep driving this car longer

Hi there,
some updates on hybrid battery pack .Couple days ago I got some left overs battery cells from Camry 2012.
I was just about to recharge them and store fore future use ,when happened again.
I got code P03020 which is block number 10 .Scary part was that after hooking up to techstream I didn't get voltage on block 10 low .It was in range +. - . 0.50V.
So I didn't have time to Waiste and try to see why is block 10 failing .,I just put back new nells from Camry 2012.
After job was done I have started engine and guess what . New code poped up

Here it is new code, engine will run but hybrid will not work.

So again pull battery out of car and try to see which temp.sensor is not working.
4 temp.sensor attached on the bottom of the battery cells are working good and reading was fine.
Problem was temp.sensor on the top rails ,wires were pinched with guarding shield and cut insulation ,that was reason why I got CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM.
Regular code reader didn't show and fault ,only techstream.
Well that was entirely my mistake because I was rushing to finish this fast and rubber gourmet fall out of designated spot on shield plate .
Took the cables out isolate with electric tape put gurmet on right spot and sensor was still ok.

After this ,we put all back in the car and code is gone.hybrid battery works again great.
great.
WHAT DO WE KNOW HERE.NEVER EVER RUSH HYBRID BATTERY REPLACEMENT JOB.ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK CONNECTIONS .

cheers

Sorry to revive old thread. Thanks for the tutorial and the blog. It helps allot. Question for you. Have you or anyone found a new and better battery option? Like I’d hate to keep on pulling out and replacing battery blocks every 3-6 months. Like has anyone ever retrofitted a Tesla pack into these Toyota H packs?

Default tesla on lexus

i think there was guy on youtube who did replaced whole battery with li ion battery blocks.they are3 very light and no toxic fumes. he was selling about $3000 set.its nice to have tesla technology but its still very expensive.beside that according to his posting on youtube there is no issue with ecu after upgrading to liion battery pack.
