Default owner of 2008 RX400H needs your help

Dear Friends :
I am looking for a pair of tailgate assist ( shock absorber type ) which helps lift the tailgate on my RX400H.
It appears that parts are only available from dealership since it is a japan built vehicle for that years.
Dealers are demanding close to 400 each for these lifters.
Any suggestion where I can pick a pair. I do not mind getting an old pair as long as it has some life left in them.
Any suggestions?

Check Amazon. Typically $50/pair.

Aftermarket stuff should work fine. Besides amazon, rock auto has it for about $26-30 before shipping. If you want to be a OEM part (used as you mentioned) call your junk yards or check out ebay.

Mechanic insists it has to be adealer part nothing else would fit. Do not know what to do , in the meantime I am accessing the cargo area from bach seat!

Thank you all who have responded so far. Not many wrceckers here in Canada who have these Japanese built vehicles in their yards.

Perhaps someone in USA can help locate a wrecker who has these lifters/struts for my car, it is a 2008 RX400h.

Thanks.

Wow I would remove one of the struts, I looked and they pop off easily, and go to the various auto parts stores and find a strut close in length and try it out.

What is the part number you are looking for? I saw amazon, ebay, and rockauto had selections. Are you saying becuse it is Japan built that aftermarket parts will not fit? I would buy from amazon and send it back if it does not fit.
