is this the same thing as the one mentioned above or are their subtle difference between years.......

 

I do it the old-fashioned way. Go to Walmart, open the big filter catalog and find the part I need.

I'll have to look at the actual engine oil filter on my RX450h and see if there are any part numbers on it and report back here.

 

I just changed the air filters on '13 my RX 350 this weekend.
Has anyone noticed that the aftermarket filters are about 1" difference in depth?
I have a feeling on why they go with the deeper pleats on the OEM filters. It's so they can go longer between changes.
Anyone notice if all aftermarket filters are thinner?

I just found out today that RX350 and RX450h do not use the same filter size. I think this thread belongs in the hybrid forum.

 

this was correct. After buying the wrong part (rx350 filter), which was bigger, I just went over to O'reiley's. And picked up a $20 Wix filter to do the change.

The original Denso filter, made in USA, had the part number I quoted above. Interestingly I sat there and counted the number of pleats in the Chinese made Wix filter and compared it against the Denso product. The Wix filter had about 7 less number of pleats.

I felt a bit cheated and wanted to go back and say "hey. After painstakingly counting the number of pleats in your after market filter for the last 10 minutes at the parking lot, I only have 77 pleats vs 84 for the OEM. ".

Then I figured no one but OCD people like me would do stuff like that and dropped the idea. But my point is that, for at least the engine Air filter, OEM filter seems to be better spec'd.

 

I removed the air filter out from my 2013 RX450h and took a picture and posted here. It is 17801-31141 (made in Japan).

I ordered via AMAZON the Lexus OEM air filter with the same part number 17801-31141 and AMAZON sent me a 17801-YZZ14 (made in USA).

I don't know if the one I received is the SAME EXACT one, but from my initial out of the box inspection.............IT IS NOT THE SAME.

I will have to return the AMAZON air filter and reorder somewhere else.
