Transfer - carefully - temp sensor from the old battery onto the new one.
When replacing, ensure to have backup power supply provided to computers.
Somebody suggested to change the battery with the car running so as not to lose any computer info. That's what we did. The hole for the vent on the new battery was smaller than the vent hose, so we bought little rubber vacuum adaptor. Worked perfectly. So far... everything seems good!
Thanks for the info! Sure beats spending 500 or more at the dealer. What a joke.

Can you lease share the source as imho that is not safe. Loosing settings is for sure inconvenient, but safer. Best is to use a parallel auxiliary 12v source with the vehicle turned off [key should be kept out of range to enable start (second layer of protection)]
I'm new here and not at all sure I'm doing this right but you seem to be knowledgeable. I want to jump-start my 450h but the jaws on the jumper don't fit into the + jump port. Is there a trick to this? I'm in Toronto and I'm afraid I might break some plastic because of the cold.

Battery is vented to outside of vehicle.
Battery has sensor vehicle computer system. Must be reset by service specialist.
AGM Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) is required.
If anyone finds a better replacement version, please post.

Been a while since you asked, but I had a chance to check out what you asked. This is what the cable should look like when attached to the + port, using a fairly ordinary set of consumer jumper cables.
Thanks, Andy, that's very interesting. I was trying to attach to the bolt that opening the red cover reveals. I see that you're attaching to the side of the little box. I must say I didn't see that it was a metal part.
I was still rocking the original battery until today, RX 450h. Just replaced my 12V today after killing it by accident yesterday. Was able to jump and get it going again last night, but decided to have them test the battery and it failed load test sure enough.

The factory Panasonic batteries last quite alot longer than regular 12v batteries because there is less load on them on startup because the traction battery does that.
Being an interested bystander in the study of quantum physics, I believe my almost 11yr old Panasonic battery is now in a superposition of being both dead and alive. According to the "many worlds interpretation" then, every time I try to start my RX I cause the current universe to split into two, one where it does start, and another where it doesn't. Who knew the start button on an RX hybrid could create a new universe?
Just replaced my Optima yellow top with a Diehard 35 AGM from Advanced Auto. With a 20% off coupon from signing online, price was $160. Did not use cables so back hatch needed synced. Solution... Just shut all doors and locked car. After one minute opened doors and all was back to normal.

I also recently replaced my original Panasonic 12 volt battery with a Diehard 35 AGM battery and have run into a bit of issue. Unfortunately, the original Panasonic Battery Vent elbow does not fit my new Diehard 35 AGM battery, so I have been searching for alternatives. The current options I have found are listed below:
After spending time gleaning the 12 volt auxiliary battery replacement options for our 3rd Gen RX450H's and reading the various forum posts I thought I would add a few discoveries and perhaps some additional options for when our batteries need to be replaced. The current Toyota part number is 28800-31290 the original battery was a Panasonic S55D23L. The replacement options are fairly slim. An auxiliary battery with a large Ah capacity and modest CCA would is best for an RX450H since the battery is not involved in cranking.
You definately need an AGM battery since it sits in the rear hatch and is a low gas producing type of battery. Most will come with a vent tube. Some of the newer ones may not.
One of the biggest obstacles is the small area the battery sits in. I have not measured the exact space available, but one member here (John LX300) used a Bosch Platinum and it seemed to fit well and had the vent tube. If someone has the measurements and knows the exact amount of space that would be very useful.
I am on my original OEM battery made in late 2010 and use a CTEK charger to keep it in good condition. I know the day will come when it runs out of juice so I wanted to do a little preparation for when that day comes. The chart below provides the results of my findings. The Bosch appears to the best option in terms of Ah, Cost and warranty.
I was really leaning towards the X2 battery with the 5 year warranty, but I think the length could be too long.
My choice will likely to the Toyota OEM or the Bosch.
The Pep Boys site appears to offer coupon codes on batteries often and currently offer 25% off the $189.99 price. Even with the $15 core fee the price shipped to me was only
$157.50. PepBoys Bosch Battery
I read through this whole thread and this person had the best most detailed response. Thank you.
A lot of people vouched for the Bosch battery from PepBoys. I reached out to my local PepBoys and they no longer stock this battery nor sell Bosch batteries as of December 2020. There is no alternative available for the 450h in their system.
I also tried a local Bosch certified mechanic and they had no access to this battery, nor any of their other aftermarket suppliers such as Interstate Batteries had any battery option for my car.
As a result I went with the Lexus dealer option. New updated part number for a 2010 RX450h is 28800-31291.
Lowest price I found was through a Lexus online parts store (parts.lexus.com) as a pickup at my local dealer. Google the part number to find the best source for yourself.
As of December 2020 in NJ, USA I paid $256+tax for a Lexus battery. I was originally quoted as high as $422 before tax, so make sure to shop around. Pleasantly surprised by the packaging. Didn’t anticipate the battery to come in a box. Made in Japan by Panasonic. Date code indicates September 12th, 2020 Initial charge on the new one. Old one tested at 12.1 after being fully charged and driven, dropped to 10.4 with a load tester. Old one is nearly identical (March 26th, 2010). Very happy to have a Japanese Panasonic battery as a replacement - they’re generally regarded as the best long lasting batteries you can have in a Toyota/Lexus.
At least twice now my RX450h has refused to start with the tell-tale clicking blinking dashboard lights. Seems to me the 12v battery is on its way out and I can't take the chance of leaving my wife and kids stranded again. But I also can't pay the dealer $500+ for a battery swap.
I am looking at the Optima Yellow Top 8040-218 since www.batteriesplus.com seems to think it is going to fit. Anyone here tried this swap on this exact model car with this exact model battery? I need to make sure it is a drop in replacement.
Also from what I read it would be best to maintain 12v to the car while doing the swap to avoid having computer problems and having to recalibrate windows and sunroof. Is this true?
Thanks in advance!
I just purchased a battery for my 2013 RX450h from the Toyota dealer for $377. The exact same battery from Lexus is $480.
