Default Rx400h High beam headlight change

HI, I have a 2006 RX400h. Both of my highbeam lights went out at the same time. I called my area dealer and was told it would be $1000.00 to replace both lamps! I am amazed by this. I am assuming this means replacing entire units. What ever happened to popping in another bulb? Can anyone tell me if this is a possibility and if it can be done in my garage? Are there written instructions as to how to do it?
Thanks

you need to find out if it's the bulbs or the ballasts that went bad.....

If it's just the high beams it's actually pretty simple to replace them, they just twist right out after you unplug the connector from the back of the headlight. The cost should be around $10 for a pair. You will need 9005 bulbs.

Possibly the dealer was quoting you the replacement of the low beam HIDs.

You can spend a few more bucks and get some PIAA Xtreme White 9005, nice and white high beam. Works well as DRL during the day too.

How do I change the Low & Hi beam headlight bulbs and the fog lite bulbs on a RX 400h 2007?
