Default 450h Pricing

I have had my eyes on a 450h for a little while and got a call from my dealer the other day informing me they had received a few. I went in, drove and and sat down to discuss pricing... I know that the 450 just came out but I was very surprised at the lack of flexibility on pricing. This is my 5th Lexus and I have never paid sticker for any of them so I didn't expect what they came back with. For my '07 350 with 30k which is in good+ condition they offered me 26.5k and they told me they would discount the 450h from $52.5 to $52.1 and that was after 2 hours of negotiation... needless to say I walked away from the deal, has anyone else had any luck with price negotiation? I would have expected a little more flexibility especially in this economy.

For comparison at the end of may I was in looking at the '10 RX350 and they said that they could get me in a new RX350 for my '07 and $10k, the 350 and the 450 are very similarly equipped.

For reference this was at Herb Chambers Lexus in Sharon, MA.

Your talking about a very hot commodity with very little availability. Much like the Prius. You may get a token reduction somewhere but at or near sticker is what they're bringing around the country. Read through the past posts. A good deal is getting a color you want with the equipment you want. A great deal does not always equate to how much off you got. Lexus is not in the same shape as GM and Chrysler. If you're locked into that philosophy, then maybe look at the 350 which is as nice a car, just not a hybrid and more availability.

It can go either way, but if you wait and Cap & Trade passes the Senate, you could very well look at much higher fuel prices. Then you might be on a very long waiting list at 'Market adjusted' prices like Toyota has done with the Prius. But like I said, it can go either way. Six months down the road if gas prices fall a dollar again, people have a tendency to forget where they were and where they'll probably go to and take the gas model on price standpoint while the hybrids pile up on the lots. I doubt it but ...

are you willing to wait another 2 months? If so, im sure the buzz will dye down and you might get a better deal. the car has literally became on sale for less than 3 weeks

I called my dealer this week and they have 2 on the lot. 2 other area dealers had none and the first few off the truck were already sold. I asked him what he would give me on trade in for my 07 rx 350 AWD with NAV loaded and they said best they could do was 26000. Put it on autotrader, and within 2 hours a couple called me from 6 hours away that bought it today. I sold it for 29900. You might want to try going that route and sell it for edmunds private party value.

By the way picked up my smoky granite awd, nav, RX450H two hours after my 07 left the house.

Thanks for all the help guys, with the information provided I was able to negotiate a much better deal than I originally was able to with a different dealer in the area. Now I just have to go sign the papers, hand over the deposit check and play the waiting game.

So what kind of deal/discount did you get?

$2.5k off sticker- this deal was made stipulating that the value paid for my trade will remain the same regardless of the additional miles accumulated from the point of deposit being paid unless the number of miles accumulated is greater than 1k miles if the delivery takes place in the next 14 days.

450h - dealer that I worked with basically told me that the pre-sales on the 450h are nothing near what was seen for the 400h, mostly due to the economy and because of that there are deals to be had.
