Default Oldest Rx400h Reliability?

Hello,

I´m interested in a used RX400h car and I would like to collect experiences of current owners of the oldest RX400h in terms of reliability (I think this car was made in 2005).

I would like to know from your experiences with oldest RX400h 2005 (the older the better) on their behavior after 4 years:

- fuel consumption during the time?
- Mileage? who has done more miles?.
- Batteries Problems?
- Any defect that makes lexus notified and repaired?
- Wear indoor / noise / sound / etc ...?
- Time to repair or bring pieces?

Thank you very much for all your answers in advance.

Greetings
Straycat

Welcome to the CL! I believe the first year RX400h was sold to the market was a 2006 model. Although you are right that the car is made in that year. The title of the vehicle will still be in 2006. As for the gas mileage, there is a whole thread about that regarding everybody's mileage and what year their vehicle is. I have the 2006 and I'm averaging 27-29mpg. And that's mixed with city and highway. There's some TSIB but I don't know what they were. Can someone fill in the gaps?

We have an 06 with 42k miles, highway 28 MPG, city 22 MPG (lead foot). Cold weather affects the battery efficiency/mpg greatly.

no problems though, we love our rx-h!

2006 RX400h built in early 2005 one of the first out. No problems at all I average 25.5 MPG since I got it. Extreme cold weather gas milage will drop right now I am averaging 23 MPG on a tank with snow and bitter cold. January weather snowed ten times and two cold rains.

There is the 9LC campaign recall for the electronic power steering. I had this done a month ago. Other than this, there has been zero problems for me (2006 RX400h @ 60k miles)

06 with 50k miles. 25 MPG, depending. Mileage is very dependent on ambient temperature, distance driven, and driving habits. I notice it goes to 22 in mid-winter, now that it is warmer, it's up around 26. I tend to drive a short commute (<5 miles), so the cat converters need to heat up, requiring more gas engine.

No problems other than an occasional dead aux battery (don't leave it parked for more than 2 weeks without disconnecting battery or trickle charging). Performed 9LC a while back. Some squeaks, par for SUV (got your trunk in your cabin).

I think we are all not looking forward to the rumored 100k main battery replacement, but that is a ways off.

Net, typically reliable Lexus.

Default 100k battery replacement??

Hey, why would you replace the battery in the hybrid at 100K? You don't replace the motor in your non-hybrid when the warranty runs out do you?
I have heard tell of Prius hybrid taxis with well over 200K on them, with no battery replacement.
Anyone had to replace the battery pack yet?

Angry Disappointed in mine

Bought a 2006 400H 18 months ago. Fully loaded. Mark Levinson, tow, etc. $20,000 out the door with 72,000 mile, mint condition.

I went in about 3 weeks ago for the power supply inverter recall. (Heard that's a $9k repair). A week later I magically have a transmission seal leak. Lexus REFUSES to fix the seal. "Because it's a Hybrid we have to replace entire transmission." WTH???? $6000.

So in 2 weeks $15,000 in repairs and in 18 months the car has depreciated to $10,000 per most of the appraisal sights. Edmunds, Nada, Dealer, etc.

NEVER AGAIN will I but Hybrid and am starting to think no LEXUS. This is a Toyota product. Should have made it to 200,000 without skipping a beat.

So screwed, Cant trade it..owe $6000 more than trade in value, cant sell private party has a seal leak and that's bad Karma.

The inverter recall is always free and it is a simple board replacement. $9k sounds like a rumor to me but that is just my opinion. The trans leak is a valid complaint. Mine had it but I was still under warranty. My advice is find a transmission shop that can remove the trans and replace the seal. Lexus dealers never repairs transmissions so that is why the cost is so high.

the ipm recall is not a 9k repair LOL. where did you hear that?

i expect japanese cars to last 250k km with normal maintence and some issues on occasion, nothing is perfect. its a tad unrealistic to buy a 6 year old car with already 120k km on it and expect it to last 320k km on it with absolutely zero issues

I bought mine with 72, 000 miles. Owning Toyota all my life it is not unrealistic to expect the transmission to last more than 105, 000 miles. Additionally my complaint is that it's a seal leak. No one will tough it to replace seal because of hybrid.
having a close friend in Toyota Manufacturing he says known problem on Lexus and expects a recall eventually.
The Power supply was an entire unit not a board and I don't know the cost. Several Google searches turned up a cost of close to 9k. That's where I got that info.
Either way...lots of issues with Lexus and their Hybrids. Multiple Lexus certified mechanics and manufacturing staff have told me eat the loss ditch the car and get a gas Toyota like 4 runner or Highlander.

I bought mine with 87k miles and at 140k miles now...I dread taking car in for recall, because I DONT tRUST stealership mechanics. Lexus of Roseville totally screwed up my old RX300 during a transmission change. So I am taking to Sacramento Lexus and hope their mechanics are better. As for the leak, well if it is slow, let it leak. Maybe Lexus will step up and fix it.

so what did you end up doing? and if your cvt is leaking is it safe to 'patch' it and continue driving?

I traded it at a $7000 loss last week for a 2012 Chevy Traverse. Other than gas mileage the Chevy rides better, has more toys and almost any mechanic can work on it. 15,000 miles with factory warranties intact and my insurance on a 2012 went down $100 a year vs the 2006.
