Default Buy 400h now or wait for 450h?

Any thoughts on this?

Any thoughts on the base MSRP of the 450h?

I am seeing some pretty tempting prices on the 400h (approx 40-42K fully loaded), but I can't shake the feeling I will regret not waiting....

I'd say wait. Because if you wait you will get a lot of nice new stuff with the RX450h. It's better in every way more responsive, more refined, bigger, better mpg, more horsepower

if the next RX-h is within your budget, i'd say wait for it too. That way you won't have any regrets for the next 3+ years when you drive that car.

I'd say get a look at the 450h (Lexus is having introductions they're inviting people to attend now) and if you like it wait. The 400h has the old navigation system which you can't upgrade to the new resolution and some other features which they've made significant improvements. The 400h is reliable and mileage depends upon your driving habits, but compared to the RX350 it's great!

Have been offered less than $40K on an MSRP of $51K for the 400h....tempting...

I hear that once 400h stocks are gone (like by next month) there will be no more until the 450h arrives in June. That seems like an odd thing to do, but I guess it's Lexus' call.

I've seen the debut location list and I live too far to realistically get there to see a car.

So this is me right now- , confused.

damn with all the new cars being released by Lexus this year...

i am having more choices- do i get a IS350... or new hybrid HS250... or RX 2010 ...
or the killer... IS Convertible- I do like the GS but am use to driving smaller cars and
GS is a bit big- but I do know the IS, GS and RX trunks/rear have space for my father's manual wheelchair- I also know the IS Convertible is suppose to have the same amount of space as current IS's and that is after the convertible top is stowed- just don't know
how the trunk is configured though for the wheelchair.

My comments are to wait.
I work for TMS.....and they gave us an incredible deal on the 08 RX400h.....I was able to cancel my IS250 lease 2 years early, with no fee, and pick up an RXh lease for much less than normal pricing. I work at the port here in Jacksonville, and have seen the new RX350......it's amazing! Of course the RX450h is not out yet, nor even at the port.....but the 2010 RX350 is awesome!! It is much different than my 08 RXh......they have done so well with this one!

That's true. There is no "2009" RX400, just 2008 and once that production run is gone, that's it until they release the 2010 mid year.

For me, whatever the 450H will have will not justify a $15K premium given the amount of $$$ off from invoice right now that you can get off the 400H. Also, all the gadgets in the world is not going to make up for ugliness... if you think the 2010 RX is ugly (which I do, but I will reserve my "final answer" for after I see it next month).

I agree - unless money is not a problem, you will never get a better deal right now. I basically just bought a new RX400 (although it is officially a 2008) for LESS than I bought my 2001 RX300. You can rest assured that once the new 2010 models arrive, you'll be paying a premium price for it. If money was not an issue for me, I would have definitely waited for the 2010 - but in this current economic world, I needed a car that will last 10 years and I got a great deal.

I'd recommend waiting for the '10.

Though the difference in price may be $10k initially compared to a '09 model, when you sell or trade in the '10 model you will recoup much of that difference. The '10 model will be markedly worth more during resale since it is both a newer body style and 1 year newer.

In the end you'll be driving the car you want and the price difference will not be as large as it seems at first.

Good luck with your decision.

Depends on your situation. If you are in a rush, and want to get a good deal, it's now or never. If you want to get top of the line, newer styling, and better resale value in the future wait a few months for the '10 hybrid. It is more powerful and really is worth the extra.

However if you rather have cash than features which is unlikely since you are buying Lexus in the first place, not Toyota then just get the '09. (I recently purchased the '09 last month 350 non-hybrid since my lease expired in January and didn't want to be car-less, got a great discount though, but am ever so slightly regretting it).

For me, I didn't wait for 2010.

The key factor for my decision to purchase RX400h is
1. ~$$$$$ off MSRP
2. Don't want to pay premium for new 2010
3. Lesson learned from previous car ownership. I will avoid owning a brand new designed car. May end up with too many problems/recalls.
