Default Confused, Battery replacement

My Lexus, 2016 RX450h, would not start yesterday, stranded, all lights on dash on, trunk got stuck.

Called AAA and they came quickly, jump started the car, bad battery.

Made it home, this morning AAA came to my house, they had the correct VIN number battery, and replaced it.

AAA did a good job, quickly, and efficiently, even used a backup to make sure I did not lose my setting when the old battery was removed.

However, the installer told me, that the new battery had to be entered by Lexus into the VIN # computer, else AAA warranty would be void.

This is really, really, inconvenient, because I do not live anywhere near a Lexus dealership.

So I called the Lexus dealership to confirm and they told me that for that model, and year, no computer entry was needed.

The battery replacement is fine.

I am not confident the Lexus service people gave me the correct info.

Can someone confirm that the new battery does not need any Lexus computer entry.

Thanks

Can someone confirm

The Lexus dealer told you the correct information. I have reviewed and confirmed that your vehicle's new battery does not need to be registered.

The letter that you received from AAA is just a generic instruction letter to inform members about specific procedures when a new battery is installed. AAA and AAA contract station installers do not know if the specific vehicle's new battery installation is required to be registered or not.

If this will make you feel any better, please reach out to Bryan Pearson at CSAA.

HTH.

This RX does not use BMS. If it did, there would be a sensor connected to the negative post of the battery.

Learn something every day. I have never heard of needing to register a battery with the Dealer, I just googled my car 2022 Lexus RX350 and mine needs to be registered if I ever replace my battery.

Glad to know that AAA replaced your battery. Did they do that because you purchased it from AAA or was it the original battery that came with your Lexus? My 2022 Lexus battery dies after leaving it for just three days.

I googled “Do I need to register a battery after replacement in 2022 Lexus RX350?” and Google answer is “For a 2022 Lexus RX350, you likely do not need to formally register a new battery after replacement if you are replacing it with the same type and specifications, as most modern Lexus models can automatically adjust to the new battery through their Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) system; however, it's always best to consult your Lexus dealer to confirm if registration is necessary for your specific vehicle.”
Some German cars, Audi and BMW, not sure about MB, do require to “code” the battery for proper charging. But I never heard of any Japanese brands requiring this.

There’s a mega-thread here on DIY battery replacement and in the many posts where people say that they did indeed replace the battery themselves, I don’t recall a single person mentioning a need to register the battery replacement with the dealer. The Interstate Battery guy replaced mine and didn’t mention a need to do it.
