I have tried to search, but can´t find the right words.......
I have a wonderful RX450 h 2011, 100.000 miles or 165000 km on it.
I was reading a post the other day about disabling the fold-away steering wheel and seat function and thought, what a great idea, I'll do that!
No good... the moment I checked out the little box, the instrument cluster and center display went dark, and now I can't start my car! It does not react when I push the start button. Power door locks, power seats and the power back door are working......
I have tried to look and measure the most obvious fuses under the intrument panel and in the engine compartment. They are all OK. I measured the 12 V battery, it is 3 months old and has 12.3 V on my multimeter.
What am I missing here?
I am very grateful for all the help I can get here.... Must move the car from my spot in the garage due to a maintenance job on the floor this monday....
Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native tongue...
I have no idea what little box you are referring to. Where is it located? Where did you get this information?
Just put everything back the way it was before and hope it starts and then leave it alone.
If that does not work, you may have to get it towed to a repair shop.
There is a way to change the seat setting (but the steering wheel cannot be changed) through the Navigation screen settings on some models, but on others the dealer has to change it.
These are the instructions another member posted for US cars, but your vehicle may be different as it was sold in a different market and there are sometimes differences:
The power easy access system can be shut off. I'm only familiar with the directions for nav equipped. The RX has to be on to do it. From the main screen, select, setup, vehicle, vehicle customizations. Use the down arrow to the last setting. Click on it. There are three options - full eject, partial eject and none. Once you made your selection hit save at the bottom. Use the arrow in the upper right to return to the previous screen(s). There are a bunch of other options you can change while you're there.

Thank you for your fast reply, it was the little window in the middle of the instrument cluster I was referring to. Unfortunately, everything died the moment I ticked the box, so I can't put it back to the way it was.
I was not adjusting the settings on the navigation screen, it was a choice in the little window.
Something was lost in translation: What does 'ticked" mean? You wrote "the moment I ticked the box"
Did you physically do something to it behind the dash? Pull wires?
Or use the toggle switch on the steering wheel to adjust the settings?
You could try disconnecting the 12 volt battery for 30 minutes to see if that resets everything, but it depends on what you actually did to the "box"
If you cannot put it back, then you probably cannot get the vehicle to start without more help beyond what we can offer online.
I still think you may need to tow it to a shop or dealer.
Also maybe replace the battery in your remote fob. When the remote fob battery is weak you have to hold it next to the start button to start the vehicle.
If you have a charger, I would charge the 12 volt battery while it is disconnected.
Was any attempt made to physically get to anything behind the panel? I think not and assume the tick as selection on the menu. This will assure us that nothing was tampered to make the vehicle disabled.
One invasive action was checking out the fuses in the fuse box and I would suggest just make sure every fuse is seated ... nothing is looking crooked or raised more than the other.
12.3 v on battery may seem low,k but for hybrid it is normal. imho the charging system does not try to fully charge the 12v battery.
Can you please take a picture of the instrument cluster?
You may have accidentally turned the display level low,
"Does not start" ... Keep in mind 450H does not start ever ... it gets "Ready". or gets into Standby/accessory mode.
1. Make sure your Shifter is fully in Park [or Neutral]
2. Apply brake fully [ask an assistant to stand behind and see the brake lights light up]
3. Bring only ONE smart key in the vehicle and if needed bring the key close to the start button.
I will copy your suggestions and answer as best as I can.
*Was any attempt made to physically get to anything behind the panel? I think not and assume the tick as selection on the menu. This will assure us that nothing was tampered to make the vehicle disabled.* -Nothing was tampered with. I just made a selection from the meny in the multi-information display.
*One invasive action was checking out the fuses in the fuse box and I would suggest just make sure every fuse is seated ... nothing is looking crooked or raised more than the other.* - I have checked the most obvious fuses in the engine room as well as in the passenger compartment, I pulled them out and took my multimeter to see if they were in working order.
12.3 v on battery may seem low,k but for hybrid it is normal. imho the charging system does not try to fully charge the 12v battery.
*Can you please take a picture of the instrument cluster?* - It's the same as the picture above, except that there are no instrument cluster lit at all.
*You may have accidentally turned the display level low,* - Great idea, but no, I can't move the gear shift lever and nothing in the instrument cluster indicates a powered engine.
*"Does not start" ... Keep in mind 450H does not start ever ... it gets "Ready". or gets into Standby/accessory mode.* - I don't get the "ready" light, and normally, the V6 would start after 15 sec to warm the vehicle. 1. Make sure your Shifter is fully in Park [or Neutral] - It sure is. 2. Apply brake fully [ask an assistant to stand behind and see the brake lights light up] -They light up ok. 3. Bring only ONE smart key in the vehicle and if needed bring the key close to the start button.] - Only one key Fob is in the vehicle and, strangely enough, all locks. hazard and tailgate works when I use the Fob.
No charger available, unfortunately....
Thank you very much for your input. I will soon go down and connect the 12 V battery again. Fingers crossed!
Once again Clutches came to the rescue with a solid advice.
Suggestion: Please look read and follow the service schedule plan [warranty and service booklet]. Some owners let the service department take care of items, but I do my own service and follow the items [and at times do more based on my circumstances]. One of the line item is replace KeyFob battery. [need to do it for both the key fobs].
