Duplicate Key??
I tried several options including local car locksmith types but this car seems advanced, so ended up buying a new fob from a lexus dealer on ebay and had it programmed at my local dealer. i did not get the metal key made. dont recall precisely but about 120 for fob and 75 for prog,
Thanks for the quick reply, I did find an un-programed FOB on Ebay for $115 I would just need to get it programmed. So Lexus would probably need the VIN and proof of ownership I would imagine?.
I agree. You'll find different opinions here not only because not every answer you get is fact based and certain, there are many threads on similar subjects and possible technology changes with model year. I encourage to actively use the search forum feature. It doesn't always bring up what you want on the first page, take time looking posts over.
I read about issues with auction fobs not being "virgin" that puts a spin on things. I also read that no key present requires changing your starting computer, the computer code is not in Lexus data base but held on the key fob.
I know for a fact that a dealership is a safe a fast way to get a key made. With that in mind, call a couple of dealers to ask about procedure and price. I've read all sorts of prices quoted but never a key that didn't work properly. That being said, you'll also see that service departments don't know everything about Lexus cars as I've read several situations where an owner figured out an issue that a dealer would have thrown lots of labor and parts at. Welcome to the world of Lexus, be sure to post your final solution in a way others can learn from.

not sure if you are a computer guy but its very easy to program these keys. get a blank key matching the radio ID on your current key fob. Install tech stream and program it yourself using a older computer with XP in it, you need a data cable. I have done 2 of these one for me LS and then recently for the RX. I lost my keys..
I went to the dealer with car. They have to program the fob info into the car's computer as I recall.
If you have more than one dealer in your area worth comparing. For some reason the dealer prices for key prog were very different as i recall. I even tried a toyota dealer.
