Default Fuel Pump and Wire Harness Replacement

Received a "special service campaign" notice that the fuel pump could experience "premature wear, etc. that would trigger warning lights/the failsafe mode and the car would stop working after a short distance". Is this a big deal? Has anyone out there experience this problem--first hand, second hand? It's not a recall but it's vague about the real likelihood that this is a serious problem-possibly- vs. a CYA.
Does it really take 4 hours? For me the nearest dealership is 2+ hours away and that turns 4 minimum into 8 hour minimum.

I tried to get mine done, and the service "failed". no idea if they are lying or not, but the service manager told me they attempted to install it, but the seal that came with it was messed up, so they couldn't complete the repair. Apparently they figured it out before removing the old stuff, so the car is fine, but they had to order a new kit and I've been waiting weeks now for word that it's in. So I got a free car wash out of it, and a loaner for a day.

Otherwise, haven't had any issues with it (2010, 87k miles).

Yes it takes several hours. If you ignore this and then need to pay for it yourself it will cost over $1,000.00.
Get it done now for free. If it fails you will need a tow. I had mine done, I left if in the morning and picked it up that night. Leave it with less than 1/4 tank of gas as they get to the fuel pump in the gas tank by removing the rear seat cushion. They should give you a full tank of gas afterward.
There is already another thread on this service recall. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/hs-...ump-issue.html

Others have had it fail and some had to pay out of pocket before they offered this campaign. Take the drive, get it fixed. It will also help your resale value by showing up on the CarFax report.

Kristin,

I'm in AR as well and I do have 2010 HS250H. Are you going to Tulsa or Springfield Lexus dealer?

I took mine in this week, and it took less than one hour start to finish. Plus, I got no free gas in the tank which I left at 1/4 full.

But I did get a little hang tag on my gear shift lever admonishing me for having a little heel pad on top of my floor mat that was unsecured.

Maybe because I got a loaner car, they didn't give me a tank of gas.

To add to the story,

Part of the repair was to test the fuel pump, and part of the fuel pump assembly was the fuel level sender for the gas gauge. When they filled your tank, they were able to test the gas gauge by seeing if the needle went up.

My stupid dealer played cheap with me and didn't fill my tank, therefor didn't check my gas gauge. About two days later when I went to fill up, low and behold, the gas gauge didn't work.

Now it's back again for a day for them to do the whole recall again.

After you get the recall done, make sure your gauge works.
