Default newbie

I just got my (2011 - HS250 with 35K millage, base with Navi) about three days now.

I just wanted to thank everyone on this forum - before my purchase I spend plenty of time reading everything I could about HS.

I still cannot believe I own this, what a beautiful car, for 20K I feel like I ripped someone off...my other option was honda accord 2013 EXL with 12K millage around the same price range. boy sure glad I went with HS.

my brother use to own ES300 I recall driving around in it, very smooth almost too smooth for me, steering had no feel to it. I was afraid it might be similar Lexus feeling - not even close this feels nothing like it.

HS 250 is almost as loud as my my 05 TSX maybe even louder on the highway (mostly tire noise). i have 17' Michelin tires, treads do look little warned, maybe next year I might need to replace all four. I am hoping getting through this winter with these treads in NY (long island) - hoping its not as bad as last year....

so far i LOVE this car I almost feel guilty driving around in it...averaging around 34.4 MPGs also its higher up almost feels like driving around in a SUV specially the drivers seat adjusts pretty high.

I do have a question regarding type of gas, the dealer told me minimum I should put is 89 octane, do you guys agree, I should stick to 89???

will keep you guys posted on HS experiences

87 works fine . At the it came out it was the only Lexus that used 87 . Hope you like it , it must be the tires. Mine is a nice ride on the highway. No problems at all.

Agreed - I use 87 for 4 years an no problems in 60k miles. I also have a quiet ride even on the 18" wheels. Are your tires the Michelin MXV4's that came stock on the 17's?

I have my 2010 HS Tech for over a year and I love every moment of driving it. People are asking me what kind of lexus I have everytime. I average around 35 mpg in summer time, and 32 mpg in winter. I only use 87 octane gas. It has several recalls but everything else works perfect. All I did were oil changes myself with Mobil 1 0w20. Just replaced the Toyo tires with Cooper CS5 Touring and it is very quiet. I love the adaptive cruise control on the hight way,and front camera, it saved me several accidents from blindspot corner. The LKA is another cool option, I was technically let off my steering wheel and the car steered itself back to the lane, just for testing purpose. Haven't try the PCS (Prevention crash system) option yet . The navigation is ok, you have to change the map to your destination states region, otherwise it will loose its mind and you will go to nowhere I use Google map from my Samsung Note 3 anyway since I don't want to pay $300 for usb map dongle. You can't input destinatio when the car is moving like my Acura MDX.

Anyway, it is a very reliable little car and I only paid low $20k last June at 31k miles.

OK those might be what came on the car when new, though 35k miles they should be pretty worn out by now. Typically the MXV4 is a very quiet tire, so maybe you have flat spots or something like that from the car sitting too long.

One other thought - the Energy MXV4 has been replaced by the Primacy MXV4, which gets better reviews and has a longer tread life/warranty. so you may notice a difference with the new tire. But they are expensive, just like everything else about a Lexus (or BMW/Mercedes/etc)

No experience with it, but I went to tire rack and read about it.

Looks pretty nice.

Low Rolling Resistance and a tread wear index of 700 caught my eye.
