Default 2010 HS250h (over the IS250?)

The new HS kind of looks like the IS and its not that bad. Would you guys get that over the IS250 since alot of people picked the 250 over the 350 for mpg?

Don't like the looks and doesn't look classy at all...more like a Toyota than a Lexus.

I have seen the car in person in Detroit last weekend during the world debut at the 09 NAIAS in Detroit. The car in person is definitely different than seeing it in photographs. I actually like it.

Dimensions in the photo remind me alot of a Subaru Impreza, and I think I'd prefer the styling of the new Prius (esp. after seeing the photoshopped pics of it dropped in the other thread..haha) Also, surprised Lex went with a 4.

Let's clarify some misconceptions:

The HS250h is a bit bigger than a Corolla, but has the Camry Hybrid engine (approx 180 hp, 35-40 mpg), not a Prius engine (approx 120 hp, 45-50 mpg). Therefore, if peope are going to compare technologies, the Camry Hybrid is more similar to the HS250h than the Prius.

The HS250h and the IS250 and the ES350 should, more or less, cost about the same in base versions. This will appease the entry-level luxury market by offering either (a) something mid-sized and gas efficient, (b) something smaller and sportier, or (c) something bigger and more relaxed. No other car company can offer such a line-up.

Also, one has to consider that potential consumers of the HS250h are an older and more conservative bunch, hence it will really not appease to the general on-line enthusiast population that post on ClubLexus, especially the 2IS Forum. Although the car is uninspiring to us aesthetically, it's safe and will sell to the masses.

As for the original topic, I don't see consumers cross-referencing the two cars (IS250 and HS250h). Although they will have near the same sticker price, they lure completely different consumer markets.

Between the IS250 and HS250h, I'd go with the HS250h.
Between the IS350 and HS250h, I'd go with the IS350.

Well, I guess that demographic is me (57 and conservative (politically and economically)). But I would NEVER, EVER consider a hybrid such as this. It is of no interest to me, hybrids are a gimmick and not cost effective. And this is the problem business gets into when they start pigeon holing their potential customers. We shall see if the 'more conservative and older' crowd really embraces this model. I have my doubts.
